Hi all,
Just thought I challenge myself and see if I could write a track for this listing. It is my first attempt.
This is a rough mix to see if I am even close to have a chance as a candidate before I continue.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Epic trailer ..first time.
Just a humble opinion from somebody who does not even want to attempt to get into writing in this genre (also because is oversaturated), but to me it did not feel compelling, and my interest drifted off quite soon. Also, I initially thought the strings arpeggio was in a different metre than the light percussion loop, and the horns are too low in the mix.
Have a gander at this video (and also all of his track breakdown ones), I am certain you will be able to find a lot of useful information https://youtu.be/uYKkg1mC0cc

Thank you Marco..I will look at those areas you mention and yes I just want to do one I am sure the majority who do this have some serious sound libraries unlike me.superkons wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 2:02 amJust a humble opinion from somebody who does not even want to attempt to get into writing in this genre (also because is oversaturated), but to me it did not feel compelling, and my interest drifted off quite soon. Re: Epic trailer ..first time.
As a trailer guy myself, I'll give my honest feedback.
This track has no "hook". No single element that ties the track together, like a cool memorable melodic motif or cool sound design element. That's incredibly important for trailer music. It's just a series of fast paced moving parts that layer on more fast paced moving parts.
A lot of those moving parts don't groove well together, like Marco pointed out. Especially the synth thing that comes in at 0:41. It doesn't seem to have any regard for the rhythm of the other parts its playing on top of. There is no groove. Trailer music is like orchestral pop a lot of the time. It's super simple musically, but it has a good groove and energy and builds to a massive conclusion, and it's produced REALLY well.
The structure is awkward. There's no break/edit point before the climax/act 3 section. Also that strangely long and meandering outro with the horn is just slow and kills all the energy of the track. That section would never get used in a trailer.
The samples are really dated and cheesey sounding. You can't have trailer music without cutting edge modern production value, so if you really want to do this, you'll need better samples and a lot of knowledge on how to treat/produce them.
I'd advise you go to https://search.audiomachine.com/albums/ and listen to a bunch of these albums to hear the level of production to aim for, and the structure of trailer music overall.

Re: Epic trailer ..first time.
THank you smcm...that is exactly what I wanted to know so I don't continue with this and keep it in my folder and work on it at a later date or not.
I will go back and put the time and effort in what I am better at.
thanks.
