String articulation techniques/strategies question

Post by johndalenow » Fri Dec 10, 2021 4:02 pm

Can someone please speak to how to use different string articulations within the same instrument track. Is that even possible, or do I need to set up different tracks for each of the different articulations I might choose to use? My daw is Logic Pro X

Thanks much,

John Dale

I typically use key-switching, but the plugin has to support it. Sometimes with NI instruments you'll need to install the performance version of a plug to get key switching. The basic concept is that you play/program key on events in a range well below the instruments range. Those keys tell the plugin which articulation to play for the next note(s). Check your manual for key-switching if you want to try it out. It should have all the information specific to that plug to make it work.

There might be other ways to do this, but I've found this to be relatively easy and very effective.

Which string libraries are you using? There are a ton of great tutorials on YouTube, search for "String articulation Logic <library name>. Here's an example.
