How good will 2022 be?
I just signed my 10th song of the year (across 3 different libraries), which got me to thinking. I went to my first Rally in 2013. I think I signed my first song in 2014 and then a couple per year until 2018 when things started to kick into gear for me. So basically I've just matched my output from 2013-2018 in one month! Of the ten songs, five are written and recorded solely by me, but the others are with four different co-writers that I met through the Rally, the Forum and a friend of a Taxi member. It's interesting. I've never signed a song through a Taxi listing, yet every single library I am in is based on some connection I've made through the people I've met because of Taxi. So given all that, there better be an in person Rally this year - I've REALLY, REALLY missed not being in LA these past two Novembers!
So if you didn't realize from all the emails over the years, the Rally is where it's at. You're wasting your membership dollars if you don't go at least once!

Whilst I don't disagree the Road Rally is probably a great thing to go to, it's difficult for many to justify the cost especially when they live thousands of miles away.
There's plenty of success stories of folks that have done well and never been to one, and plenty of folks that have been and raved about it yet never really kicked on in their career.
So...if you can go then go ....but if you can't it's not a barrier to success. I think people will succeed / not succeed irregardless of whether they can attend or not.

I think we all can agree there is no ONE thing that is make or break for success when it comes to courses, rallies, memberships, etc., etc. Persistence, work, and continuous improvement, no matter how you get there are the keys. For ME, the rally was AMAZING and responsible for so many of my deals and placements.
For someone else, maybe their path was different.

Well, it all depends on how you look at things.
Every single library that I am in that is getting me placements and pitching my songs I heard about from people I met at the Rally, hanging in the bar, the ballroom, the lunches or the classes. And I almost forgot about the pool, lots of good conversations have happened there! This is thousands of dollars I’m making that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t known about them. I guess it’s worth pointing out that I only do songs, which come along less frequently than cues but do pay way more when you get them.
Yes I realize there is a cost to it - I fly from Toronto. But you’ll notice I said to go at least once - it’s free to members and it’s what makes the membership valuable imo. After you’ve been once, you can then decide if it’s for you or not. Make it a vacation if you can, being surrounded by so many like minded people is inspiring and a lot of fun! You can also save costs by sharing rooms - I know four ladies who all bunked together to save cash. Every business has costs and if you invest in yourself and put in the hard work you never know what will happen. And if you’re making money at this most of these expenses are deductible (at least in Canada).
BTW this is simply me sharing my experience - it was another member who told me I should post this story here.

On even a more 'simple' level: having connected with musicians of a variety of skills and specialties - face-to-face - not only resulted in some 'fun' collaborations/co-writes/WFH situations;johnlewitt wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 4:26 pmWell, it all depends on how you look at things.

most of those people live way beyond the reach of frequent commuting; but now they are valued friendships that have, so far, lasted years.
It doesn't have to be either-or: business or networking relationships. The RR offers an interesting opportunity to enhance BOTH...
PRIMARILY for the financial/goal-oriented PROFESSIONALS, yes: but, even for the full or part-time hobbyists.
Good report, John (who did a WFH accordion track for me, soon after we met at a RR years ago) -
and CONGRATS on having the kind of success you're willing to SHOW & TELL about.
Good onya, EH?

On a serious note, we made some nice cash on our Christmas song and I'm sure hanging out with you at the rally was a factor.

Like John, the rally has been amazing for me especially because I do mainly collabs and work for hires. Building those personal relationships has been everything for my getting deals and placements. I'm a big believer in going to the rally. That being said, I'll never say that there is only one way to skin a cat.

And every single library I'm in I learned about whilst sat at my computer. I've never actually spoken to any of them in person. If you have what they need they'll be interested. The contact medium is fairly irrelevant in the big picture.
