Feedback for SAD, MINIMALIST PIANO & STRINGS INSTRUMENTALS

Post by DennisPMusic » Thu Feb 10, 2022 4:12 am

Hi

I have already submitted to this listing, but I would like some feedback anyway, for future submissions in the same genre😊.

My Track:
https://www.taxi.com/members/a9Q_Ye0vSv ... m-lancolie

Reference Track:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktp2Tjfi5ko

The Listing:

SAD, MINIMALIST PIANO & STRINGS INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a NEW International Music Licensing Company started by highly experienced, successful founders!

TAXI TIP: This is a hot new Library that's BRAND NEW to requesting music through TAXI, so chances are you don’t have any material in their catalog yet! This company is all about "new, fresh music," so this is a great opportunity to get in first and create a new outlet for your music and begin a new relationship with an awesome new company!

This Company is searching for Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues in the general ballpark of these references:

Quoting the Company: "We are looking for greatly produced tracks with excellent performances that are representing the style and genre very well, while still staying within 'production music' rules."

Please submit modern, minimalist Piano and String Instrumentals (or Cues) with an overall sad sound and feel. Your submissions should have compelling melodies and a combination of Piano and String instrumentation. If you plan on using virtual piano or string instruments, they should sound like the real thing – anything that sounds synthetic, low quality, or obviously MIDI-driven won’t work for this request. Please be sure that your production is high-quality and modern, as well.

Beautiful music, you are obviously aiming for that Chopin reference. ;) The only thing that comes to mind is that the violin sounds a little dry to me and could use a splash of reverb. The reference has a little more reverb on the violin than your track. Really nice writing!

Loved it. Glad it made it through. Your sounds are very realistic. What are you using?
My only critique (and it doesn't matter at this point), is that the violin note at the beginning stays the same for almost 18 seconds. Maybe it's a sample and there is no way to change it, but if you could vary the pitch a little bit, it would make it more interesting. Awesome job!

Hi Jeff

Thanks for your feedback and I'm glad that you liked itπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘.
The violin in the start is a Kontakt library called Violin Textures(a real violin in a granular engine) and I generally wanted to give this track some vibe, so it isn't so polished and clean and I'm using it as a drone before the cello takes over and play a more traditional melody line😊.

Best regards

Dennis

Hi Dennis, as others have said, its a lovely piece and I'm glad it was forwarded.

Just a few things occurred to me on listening, and I hope they might help in future. I agree that the early solo violin was a touch on the dry side. Being really picky (unnecessarily so ;) ) I thought it sounded just a little nasal, but that's probably nothing more than my own personal taste. I also wondered whether the re-bows were where a 'real' player would have put them. On piano, I heard some mechanical noise from every A note, almost like a clock in the background.

These subtle things clearly didn't prevent the piece being forwarded, and rightly so. I only mention them because if I can hear them then they could make the difference for a really picky screener, library or producer. Best of luck with your forward though :).
Hi

Thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘.
I have answered your first note about the violin in the last post from Jeff, so I don't want to repeat myself😊.
About the piano sound, I was going for a more vibey piano sound. I'm using Noire from NI, so it's a mix between a normal and a felt piano, with added mechanical noise, so it's correct what you're hearingπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘.
It's a matter of taste, but I like this vibey approach, but it could also work for a more natural-sounding pianoπŸ‘.

Best Regards

Dennis
