CLASSIC ROCK feedback (please)!

Post by BrentI » Fri Feb 25, 2022 3:19 pm

Hey there! Hoping everyone has had a great week. I'd love to hear some feedback on this classic rock cue I composed. I'd like to submit it to the following listing. I submitted it to a similar listing last fall only to have it returned, so I wanted to include what the screener said to see if you think I've made any improvement. Thanks so much!

CLASSIC ROCK INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a NEW International Music Licensing Company started by highly experienced, successful founders!

This Company is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues that could be found on a playlist with the following references:

"Highway to Hell" by ACDC

"Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses

"Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues only for this request.

Quoting the Company: "We are looking for greatly produced tracks with excellent performances that are representing the style and genre very well, while still staying within 'production music' rules."

Please send top-notch Rock Instrumentals (or Cues) with a Classic sound and vibe. Your submissions should have rockin' guitars, memorable motifs, solid rhythms, excellent musicianship, and plenty of great energy. Typical rock instrumentation that's generally similar to the references will suit your submissions best. Please be sure that your production is polished and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and sound like the real thing – nothing stiff or obviously MIDI-driven will work, here. The more your pieces sound like they're being performed by a real band playing real instruments, the better!

My original submission: https://www.taxi.com/my/artist/songs/dw ... ap-thrills

What the screener said: "The track has potential. The underscore / bed is there. However, it needs a little more development. The two note guitar hook could have more variation. The guitar solo could be more polished. Could use some additional layers and ear candy."

I like this a lot. Before it gets forwarded, the mix needs to improve. The drums are slightly too low, or the guitars are too hot. Also, there are some strange panning choices going on, that can be interesting sometimes, but in this case, quite distracting. Did you mix this yourself, or did you hire someone? Very curious.

Thanks for taking the time to listen Jeff. I actually raised the drums a fair bit from my original submission, but I agree…I think they need to come up more. Thanks for the input on the panning too. I’ll make some adjustments. I mixed it myself, so guilty as charged! Ha!

Thanks again!
