"Never Before" (Epic Action Orch Hybrid Instr)

Post by johndalenow » Mon Mar 07, 2022 1:11 pm

Does it seem to "fit" with the references, EG "TACITUS" in particular?

EPIC, ACTION ORCHESTRAL HYBRID INSTRUMENTALS for SPORTS CONTENT are needed by a great Music Library with lots of success in Film and TV placements.

They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly from them:

"Tacitus" by Daniel L Heath

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUj3WqRwY3w

"Black Angels Rise" by Mark John Petrie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49GDKLDzXsw

"Tribal Battles" by Daniel Law Heath & Magnum Opus

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-p3hVRAWgM

"Evil Reborn" by Charles Evans

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFPFVXlAnN4

Please send well-produced Orchestral Hybrid Instrumentals that create a huge, epic sound and vibe that could be used in sports-related content. Engaging motifs, solid rhythms, and plenty of unapologetic energy are a must for this request. Your arrangements should blend Orchestral instrumentation with Rock, Hip-Hop, and/or Electronic elements and be generally similar to the style of the references. Please be sure that your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use are cutting-edge and high-quality.

All submissions should be about 2 to 4 minutes long (give or take) with non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022. TAXI # S220309BG

I listened to Tacitus first and then your track John.

Whilst there are some similarities there are some big differences as well. Musically the majority of it seems pretty much on track and the section from 1:30 to the end is the best part.

Where it falls down for me is not in the ideas but in the execution. The instant I heard your track after the Reference not only was it much quieter , it sounded like the drums were coming out of a tin can. Now I don't know what drums you are using but the ones I use such as Action Strikes sound better than that even if you do nothing else to them ( and you still need to enhance them ).

Overall the production is just not up to par and I know you said you've invested in some good libraries so it begs the question why the mix / production is falling quite far below the bar.

I think a well produced version of that cue along with some tidying up would stand a reasonable chance but time after time I seem to hear your good ideas lost in a sea of poor to mediocre production / mixing and mastering.

Did you consider joining something like Sync Academy and doing their mixing and mastering course ? I'm not sure what the issue is but you need to fix it to get anywhere I'm afraid.

Mark

I'm still studying at Sync Academy and I will focus mixing and mastering. FYI, I used Spitfire's Cinematic Drums. Anything, in particular, that you can tell me to do to improve the drums? Best! John

Why the sarcasm all of a sudden? I'm simply trying my best to improve and treat someone who I thought was trying to help me with respect. Please clarify.

I'm being serious. Try taking off any additional processing / plugins added.

I've not used that particular library but similar ones I've used sound better than that even raw.
