Copyrights Issue

Hello, I have a question, if I produce an original instrumental but in 4 bars I copy exactly the same trumpet arrangement of a famous song of another genre, will I have copyright problems? Do I need to ask for permits/licenses?

Personally, I'd stay far away from it. Why risk the legal entanglement. Plus, if you are going for TV/Film, most libraries will not accept it. I've had songs rejected because it snowed to close to a famous artist and their song. It's only four bars, rewrite it in that style.

Although each case would be decided on its own merits, there is precedent is Australian law which would suggest a cautious approach. Here is a summary of the copyright infringement case involving Men at Work's song, "Land Down Under."
