TBH - when you have a vocalist THIS GOOD - the challenge becomes: "How do I not spoil her solo?"
IMHO - you did a commendable job creating accompaniment that supports & complements, without getting in the way.
Not as easy of a task as it might seem. :? 8-)
Well done, you two. "BRAVO!" :D
Cheers,

Nice vocals...the backing sounds quite feeble to me though....too midi like ( remember I grew up listening to this being played every night when the BBC closed each night )

It's meant to be quite stirring and rousing...this is about as rousing as a soggy rich tea biscuit. Also I don't like how it starts. I think when I have heard it live in a stadium the instruments always started first, maybe with a little drum roll.

OK, to make Mark happier ;), this revised version is a little more humanized and less aggressively cut in the bass frequencies. It may sound a little richer (i.e. less "feeble") to some.

It helps a little but

1. I don't think the vocal performance sounds particularly sombre so there's a mismatch with the backing track.

2. The orchestral sounds are not very well mixed, even in a cathedral setting you get some clarity and separation but here everything is so squashed together it just sounds like an orchestral patch from an old midi keyboard playing in a cave. The whole arrangement sounds more like it should be coming from a church organ not an orchestra. https://youtu.be/j7ujvOWWfpY?t=40

3. It's out of time with the vocals, the whole thing is dragging behind the singer and things like your cymbal crash near the end come in somewhat randomly it seems.

4. I think of you wanted to make God Save The Queen - " Funeral Edition " then you've not really researched and thought it through. If you have to explain what you are going for then it's usually because you have missed the mark. We should be able to tell. Contrast you version with a more stripped back approach. https://youtu.be/9u3U89zw8JQ

Beautiful. Her voice is flawless. My only post thought was i wonder what it would sound like sung slightly faster. nice work...congrats
