Another Blues Instro Pitch

Post by DBarnett » Thu Apr 14, 2022 10:31 am

Hey Taxi Friends!
I need your feedback on any issues that stand out on this one, please
I'm not sure what the time signature is, I used 3/4 @ 160 BPM but it may be 6/8 @ 80?
Thanks for your time and thoughts

Several BLUES INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Music Supervisor for several (up to) $6,000 placements in a brand new TV Show that just got picked up by a Major Streaming Service!

This Music Supervisor is on the hunt for quite a few Instrumentals in All Tempos that could be found on a playlist with the following references:

"38th Street Blues" by B.B. King https://youtu.be/TeKMyhhbClY

"I Wonder Why" by Otis Rush https://youtu.be/ZCTYMSzZoSo

"Blues After Hours" by Pee Wee Crayton https://youtu.be/gs1Gv6GFAqE

"Chitlins Con carne" by Junior Wells' Chicago Blues Band & Buddy Guy https://youtu.be/YVzYcvcciVQ

NOTE: This listing is mainly looking for recently recorded Songs in the general production style of the references; but, if you’ve got any great vintage recordings (recorded back in the day), they would love to hear those as well!

Please submit well-produced Blues Instrumentals that could help establish a mood for various bar scenes in a TV show. Soulful motifs, engaging rhythms, bluesy guitars, excellent musicianship, and solid arrangements are all required for this pitch. Organic-based Blues instrumentation will suit your submissions best. High-quality production and authentic-sounding performances are key to nailing this request; so if you are planning to use any virtual instruments, please be sure that they don't sound low-quality, stiff, or obviously MIDI-driven.

Hi Dave

This is a good track.

In my opinion it has a 12/8 time signature, which is really 4/4 with each of the four quarter note beats in each bar divided into eighth-note triplets.

Cheers
Michael

Hi Dave,

Nice track. It is 6/8 . If it is the final mix I would try to clean up the crackle/pop after the track ends.

good luck

Andre!!
Thanks for noticing, yes I'll clean up the ending :D
Anything about the mix that needs attention?
I know the mood of this track is dark so it may get stamped "off target" but I still want to get the best final product
6/8, Thanks my friend!

I am hearing almost everything in the middle, maybe spread out the mix a little, it sounds more mono than stereo.

This is down right sexy. You put me sittin on the end of a dim lit bar starin down a beauty who is starin back at the other end. Perfect processing on the axe and the right sprinkle of the harp. Congrats on another dandy

Thank you, I am going to work on the panning a little as suggested by Andre, I hope to update tonight. Fingers crossed I don't mess it up lol

Ok, the above link has been updated
It's subtle but I think it's a little wider now

The listing mentions " in the general production style of the references". Based on this, I'd say your track is a bit shiny, maybe run it through a tube or tape emulator or some other lofi effect. I use the Waves J37 plugin for this sort of thing.

The skill is evident in the guitar playing, but the references have crack performances by the other musicians too, especially the piano in the Crayton reference. The organ used as a pad is not stylistically congruent and the harp and bass are in a "safe zone" of what the average listener would consider "bluesy". If you have time, I'd try giving the other voices more of a say, or seek out those who could help me do so.

hope this helps,

Michael
