Country Hip Hop
Hey Y'all!
I decided to take a crack at my very first Hip Hop track with this listing....
I was REALLY surprised at how repetitive the reference tracks were....Am I even close with this one?

Re: Country Hip Hop
What's the exact verbiage of the listing you're targeting, Sam? It helps if you copy & paste some of the listing text into your posts here in Peer-to-Peer so we know what you're aiming for. Otherwise, any comments are just gonna be shots in the dark with no frame of reference.

Re: Country Hip Hop
Doh! Sorry bout that ...here's the Listing:
COUNTRY HIP-HOP INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by an established and well-known Independent Production Music Library that pays Upfront Fees to Composers!
This Library is on the hunt for Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly from them:
"Railroad" by Ganga Beats
"Alamo" by Ganga Beats
"Mississippi Dew" by Yung Troubadour
Please send well-produced Instrumental Cues that expertly blend County and Hip-Hop elements to set a modern, cool, and swaggering vibe and feel. Your submissions can range stylistically from Country to Americana to Bluegrass, just be sure to include Hip-Hop beats with whichever direction you choose! Engaging motifs, solid rhythms, and excellent arrangements are all required for this pitch. Craft your Cues around a singular motif, and create a sense forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress.
Instrumentation that is generally similar to the references will suit your submissions well. Please be sure to include organic Country instruments like guitars, banjos, fiddles, etc., to help give your submissions a more authentic sound. Your production should be polished and any virtual sounds or samples you use need to be high-quality and cutting-edge.

Re: Country Hip Hop
I think it's good but not sure if it's hip-hop enough. It might be better with a straight booming beat like the first reference track.
Keep in mind that this is a very high bar listing since it involves up front fees which aren't that easy to get these days.

Re: Country Hip Hop
The drums don't sound like Hip Hop drums , they're too tame and the overall thing is just too repetitive to me.

Re: Country Hip Hop
Thanks for the input guys...... yeh that was the thing that was bugging me too....the reference tracks are REALLY REALLY repetitive, I don't hear hardly any change from top to bottom on them.
The drums sounds were also surprising to me....they sounded like real drums, not a drum machine so that's the sounds I used....
I went and listened to some current hip hop and the drums are very different from the references given....
Am I missing something here or are the reference tracks using real drum sounds to make it more.."country?"

Re: Country Hip Hop
Sam, I'd use drum samples with a more traditional 'trap' sound. Also some 16th note hi hats would help move your track in that direction. I'd probably start them in the second half much like the ref track 'Mississippi Dew.'

Re: Country Hip Hop
Hi Sam -
Follow the listing when it says to create a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out. But do it subtly, in a way that maintains a consistent overall vibe.
HTH. Good luck with this!
