Emotionally Uplifting Piano and Strings Cue

Post by eandersonmusic » Sun Apr 24, 2022 8:05 am

Hey everybody! I would love some feedback on this cue.. I was thinking of changing the piano sound for something softer. But it is supposed to be uplifting, so a little backbone in the piano sound may not be a bad thing? Anyways, thanks for listening and any comments!

Here's the listing:

EMOTIONALLY UPLIFTING ORCHESTRAL & PIANO INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Music Licensing Company that's secured tons of great placements with Major Network TV Shows, Films, Commercials, and Video Games. This Company has signed many TAXI members over many years and has garnered lots of placements for them!

This Company is searching for Instrumentals that could be found on a playlist with the following references:

"Far Away" by Elena Fallwell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjP58Om3PQM

"Awatere" by Ensemble Rivr Dane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDhKMb06Itc

"Just a Little Hope" by Ari Goldstein
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CU7hbcuqev4

Please submit top-tier Orchestral and Piano Instrumentals that evoke an overall uplifting vibe and sound. Expressive melodies, excellent arrangements, and top-notch musicianship are all musts for this request. Your instrumentation should be generally similar to the style of the references and focus on piano and strings. Your production should be polished, and if you plan to use any virtual instruments, please be sure they are high-quality and sound like the real deal.

TAXI Tip: We suggest trying to keep your submissions on the simpler side, melodically. Your job is more about establishing an uplifting mood rather than winning "Composer of the Year"!

Submissions should be about 2 minutes long, give or take, and have non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split all upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll keep 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with other Libraries or Catalogs. Please send as many Instrumentals as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. All Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Thursday, April 28th, 2022. TAXI # S220428PS

This is not a genre I am so familiar with so please take my feedback with a grain of salt:)

First thing I noticed right off the bat is that it doesn't have an obvious uplifting mood. In my opinion it leans more on the sad side of things. It has rays of hope, kinda like after slowly coming back on your feet after a breakup kind of hope but it isn't an obvious uplifter, at least not to my ears.

Otherwise it is a nice piece of music and very emotional. If you maybe change the melody in such a way where it puts more emphasis on the "uplifting" notes I think it might work.

P.S I like the sound of both the piano and strings and I think it was a good call to not go with a softer sound (again not my genre but listening to the reference tracks it does sound close)

Rgds,
Owen

Thanks Owen for your feedback!
I was thinking about the mood as well. I actually have three cues I was going to submit (the other two are more powerful in their uplifting tone), but after re-listening to the examples, I realized that the examples are all kinda subdued with the uplifting feel ("Just A Little Hope" is almost always one of the examples for these types of listings). Honestly I think the other cues I have would get returned just because they are powerful, so I'm thinking of just submitting this one. But yeah, not sure if it's exactly what they're looking for..
Thanks again bud-
Erik

It is a really pretty well done piece but it comes from a sad place.. .I don't hear the uplift the listing calls for........ - I am not an expert so I could be very well off - but I was more sad and pensive than feeling positive, hopeful

good luck
