Hi folks!
Looking for some help and ideas for my track. It got rejected before so I know some of the possible issues/problems that may pop up.
The screener wrote that is sounds dated and that the quality of the mix is not good enough, but he really liked the riff.
Here's the track: https://www.taxi.com/members/gfqbyjgMTo ... -own-thing
And this is the current listing. I would like to adapt and update my track for it.
A Bunch of MAINSTREAM ROCK INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a well-established International Music Publishing and Licensing Company that is expanding their catalogue!
NOTE: This Library is BRAND NEW to requesting music from TAXI, so this is a great opportunity to create a new relationship for your music with a very prestigious company! Trust us, this is a catalog you want to be in!
This Company is searching for a wide range of Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals – and several of them – in the general wheelhouse of the following references:
WARNING: Some of the following references have graphic and explicit lyrics. Listener discretion is advised.
Nissan Pathfinder Commercial
"Play with Fire" by WAR*HALL
"Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat" by Del Water Gap
Swamp People (from 0:10 to 0:30)
"Dirty" by grandson
Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals Only for this request.
Please send well-produced Rock Instrumentals with rockin' motifs, solid arrangements, and energizing grooves that could fit well for a variety of sync placements. A range of modern Rock instrumentation can work for this request – from Indie to Alternative to Southern Rock to just about anywhere in between, just be sure they are commercially viable and generally competitive with the styles of the references. We recommend crafting your pieces around a singular motif and mood, and creating a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress. Your production should be polished and any virtual instruments or samples you use should be modern and high-quality.
Your submissions should be about 3 minutes long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Do not submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ Songs, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.
NOTE: The bar will be high for this request. Please send your very best!
This Company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE deal. The specific deal points will be handled on a case-by-case basis. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you'd like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Tuesday, August 16th, 2022. TAXI # S220816RK

Hi Alon! Your track has a lot of nice elements and could definitely work for certain listings, but to me it doesn't sound close enough to the references for this listing. It's also quite a bit short of the 3 minutes they're looking for, so I'd suggest starting fresh and really catering to one of the reference below, since it's not due until 8/16 there's plenty of time. Hope that helps, and best of luck! Doug

I saw a listing recently for 50s and 60s rock. Maybe find it and see if this track (I like!) fits in better there?

Right now, this sounds like Classic Rock and is def too short for the listing.
While the guitar riffing sounds somewhat like the first ref, I would like to hear the guitars more distorted and bright. At the moment, the guitar riffing is the strongest part of the track but needs more interesting changes.
The drums are def over-compressed and only poking through in places. Less compression directly on the drums and maybe some parallel comp might be the ticket. I would like to hear them louder and more like the listing examples. I think some claps would help too but not overdone.
You should also make the arrangement less repetitive and give it more of an arc. As for example.. bringing instruments in and out to create more interest throughout the track.
I don't think the piano will work for this but that's just an opinion.
The overall mix needs to be more punchy and bright.
Good luck and I hope I've helped!
