I GIVE UP
WOW! The only thing to say is THIS IS IT! It seems as if everything I try even with hard hard work it gets returned. Now I am not a newbee Ihave had some success a few international placements but my frustration level is about to bust.kind regards, Ron

Re: I GIVE UP
Sorry to hear that! Can you give us a bit more details on your situation? Did you establish relationships with libraries etc

Re: I GIVE UP
Yup . . . .
thats what everyone says at one time or another. dont really believe it anymore, creators are fickle yet stubborn. I predict once the emotions settle you'll be back on that horse in no time
FWIW folks who are resigned to giving up usually disappear unannounced, ill catch you later bud (peace)

Re: I GIVE UP
One thing that people sometimes lose sight of is that Taxi listings usually have fairly specific requirements, a more narrow focus. So great tracks get returned quite often. Those same tracks get signed and even placed with libraries all the time. Clients often come to Taxi for the things they have a more immediate need for, don't have enough of in their catalog, etc.
It's important to use Taxi as one tool as your arsenal, not your only approach to getting tracks signed and placed. Stick with Taxi to grow from the feedback and the opportunity to make new library contacts, even if there are dry spells. You can get connected to some great ones. But also seek out library opportunities on your own. There is a synergy between the two approaches as well. Taxi listings help you improve your music & learn to address briefs while you keep pitching through Taxi and on your own.
Hang in there! This business is a marathon, not a sprint, so there will be lots of ups and downs.
Best,
Casey

There you go Ronnie. Inch-by- inch leads to miles.
I'm leaning on this thread for some vicarious fuel. I'm anticipating some returns soon. Hoping for better but . . . We shall see.
A four day turnaround is pretty impressive Ronnie. Looking forward to an "I almost quit but then . . . ." story from you soon.

Re: I GIVE UP
The thing about being pissed and irate is that its OK! dont stifle or suppress it...it is what it is....accept it, par for the course. i've screamed and cussed out so many times (not to their faces obviously haha) that my fam already knows whats up (followed by giggles and chuckles right after). the faster you get it out of your system the better (a punching bag has been very therapeutic)...suddenly days go by and perspective comes back...
and im sure you know this is not exclusive to taxi only. from the ponds and jungles of RF add to cart sites, to the big conglomerates with 3 to 4 letters in their name, I have felt the sting of the perfect, heavy labored, on-target track being crushed to pieces by an email, to the "WTF!, out of the 3 i sent in you're taking that one?!?" moments.
You need to have a mindset where frustration is the norm and not the exception in this biz, and none of us are immune but a select few. eventually you have to get ready for folks changing reference tracks mid-brief, revisions galore, projects being canned, wetransfer deliverables expiring for the 3rd time, and seeing writers having 4 tracks in the album when the max submission for the brief was 2 per author LOL! its a hell of a bumpy ride so frustration management is a must...
oh and an honorable mention to the album release listen parties (where you didnt make the cut) "none of those were even close to the ref tracks!!!" reactions haha, been there....

Re: I GIVE UP
I hear ya... I've had a ton of returns... It's taken me a while to really develop my ear and hear the subtleties that the listings are asking for. I'm in my third year, have had more returns than forwards, but have really developed because of the feedback, although it has been really frustrating in many regards. But it's really paid off and made me a better song writer and made me much more efficient in my DAW... so stick with it!

Re: I GIVE UP
Jason Blume recently had an article on the BMI Weekly newsletter about "Pathological Persistence". That sort of speaks for itself. I just got a return for something I felt nailed the listing, I am disappointed, more so than I expected to be. But, I remind myself what caseyh put so well earlier in this thread, listings are a tight keyhole to fit through. I write to listings because that way I am always writing music that someone is seeking and it serves to keep me focused and working towards a deadline - that works well for me. At the end of the day, if it doesn't fit through the keyhole I - hopefully - have a piece of music that might interest some other library. And, I have another piece (or two or three) in my collection of works. So, even if I don't get a forward, I am one step closer to my goal. I am new at writing for listings - been lurking on taxi while I finished up my composition degree - so I may need to come back to this thread at some point to remind myself not to stay discouraged for too long. Best of luck and success to you... PATHOLOGICAL PERSISTENCE!
