Great advice super. I have severe allergies. Right now I can't hardly swallow. Maybe only a couple of days month can be decently clear (even with drugs) I use a click track and an acoustic track only when recording the main vocals. I do harmonies usually without the click and just watching the main vox line. Yup it works good.
I also usually sing a little too out front and simply slide the track to sound good. A little late is better than too soon.
I have this thing called dry mouth. At night I have to spray a couple of times every few hours. It causes both cavities and clicks when you are singing. old age thangy
I like the idea of off axis for breathing. I am going to try that. Very nice of you taking the time to share yur experiences. Now I have to track down your music and take a listen. ha ha the best to you
All I see is bunch of reasons why you can't rather than reasons why you can- you know the answers. Anything can be improved with the right training done regularly.

Haha Yes that is what is sounded like. Nope I am determined and have already taken your advice and did research on vocal coaches. There are some on line, but I think I found one not too far away. I also am going to start allergy shots. I wonder how many folks on this forum, who are 74 or more, are writing and producing songs?
I play the acoustic, electric guitars including bass and do my own singing. I have the drummer in our band drum along.
I hope you can stay with music this long. The best to you

Hi SB I think one problem is I have switched mic's from a 414 to a shure 58. the 414 you can be two feet away and not get all those problems. I have been singing a little off key lately and have found the only way (with damaged hearing) is to let the monitor speakers play and myself get my lips right on the 58. I know that is so improper, but it did work.
Who told you that it is improper to be too close to the mic? Rob Ciarelli, Grammy winning engineer and regular Taxi friend/guest says that he likes his singers to be right on the mic so he can capture every sound and nuance. Put a pop filter in front of the mic, then get your face right onto that. Forget the two foot rule... that's probably part of the problem that is making you oversing and giving you a less than optimal result. You will need to play around with your gain when recording, see if your audio interface has a "pad" button that can help prevent sending too much signal to your DAW.

Keep it up!! I recently saw a video of my friends playing in a big band where the leader is 102 years old and is still playing trombone, and swinging! 74 is not old... it's the new 54. :)

From Paul to Paulie. My band members call me that and once in a while I would hear it in my teaching career. Well in our band I jump right on the mic and let er rip, so there is that. I was working out of my mini winter home in Texas. I usually use the 414. I have this awful dry mouth thing going on and thought by getting away a bit would help. Having the proper education on the topic would have helped. I do have a pop screen and I will affix that in place for sure. My interface is also a problem in that I have to crank it and can then already hear a hiss. I guess the bottom line is I have never had success with my songs and don't take it as serious as I should.
I also didn't put any compresssion on the vocal.ha ha Good to hear from you Paulie now back to my acoustic and "I gotta name" cheers to you

Well I stay for 4 months in Lake Jackson Texas about 200 miles from you. I built an apartment on my daughters property. We are about 45 miles south of Houston. Be great to meet you some time. Bring my acoustic and play in a bar. ha ha.
Great way to avoid the Michigan winter. Snow almost melted now. Setting up my studio and no internet connection. I loaded studio one in 2014 in win 7 and then got off the internet. I have a few hours trying to solve that today. Want to update from studio one 2 to 5. That will be another challenge.
Fun to chat with folks like you cheers

I am so confused! Am I the only one who hears a woman singing?

P.S.: Seriously, I hear a 30-50 year old woman sing here. Smoker, if you ask me. Someone with a life. Very nice song!

Wow it has been years since I have seen "the coins". Most friends I started with a long time ago here don't make tracks anymore or have disappeared.

You are the only one who answered the question. Yes I tried to sound like a kid. Girl or not. Spending time with my grandkids helped ha ha. AND I am glad you liked the song.

How many parents are finding their kids perfectly content to stay home??? thanks for the listen and the best to you
