Hey all, asking for some feedback for an acoustic guitar instrumental. I would love to hear all feedback, but I'm especially curious about whether or not it sounds period accurate for the listing. Thanks for listening!

ACOUSTIC GUITAR INSTRUMENTALS are needed for an (up to) $250, Direct-to-Producer placement in a Pilot for an upcoming TV Show!
This Producer is searching for Instrumentals that could work as a replacement for "Cohesion" by Minutemen, which is currently temped in.
"Cohesion" by Minutemen - https://youtu.be/K5XwEIUV0_8
They're NOT looking for clones or soundalikes! Similar tempo, style, and overall vibe? Yes. Clones? No!
NOTE: The show takes place in 1982 so the mood and sound of the music is very important! Your Song(s) MUST sound like they were recorded between 1970 and 1982, otherwise they can't use them! This Producer is open to hearing both high-quality vintage recordings (recorded back in the day), OR recently recorded Songs that convincingly convey the general production style of the era and the reference.

Hey Brent! I actually like this piece a lot - it's really charming and sounds like an older recording, which I think you're going for on this? Anyway, it should be a forward. If you're going to replay it, you might consider accentuating the dynamics even more, to add even more interest. Good luck with it! DK

Great playing, but not sure if this is a fit for the listing. When trying to replace a song that has been "temped in" by the editor, you really want to match the mood and tempo of whatever is currently being used. Even though your tempo is close to the reference, your track "feels" slower than the reference. To me it also sounds more happy, more Country/Folk/Americana than the reference, which I think has a distinct Latin feel. I agree with the previous comment, some more dynamics would help, Listen to the reference starting around 1:00... the music slows down for a moment, gives the listener a pause, and then the next phrase begins with some swells in dynamics.
Compositionally, I think you spend too much time on the D chord starting at 0:30. I would cut that delayed resolution from D to G in half. Or if you want to keep it, add some more dynamics so that it maintains interest.
Nice work, but I think it needs tweaking.

Thanks for listening Doug! Great point about the dynamics. I'll give it another go!DouglasKnight wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 5:54 pmHey Brent! Thanks for taking the time to listen Paulie! A lot of great points! I didn't really consider that this didn't have that Spanish guitar sound you hear in the reference. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll do some refining!Paulie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 8:01 amGreat playing, but not sure if this is a fit for the listing.
