Asking for SYNTH DRONE feedback please!
My last few tension-y submissions have been returned, so I'm asking for some feedback on this synth drone piece (please)! As always, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!

SYNTH DRONE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a very successful boutique Music Library that's distributed by Universal for placements in Promotions, Advertising, and other TV Programming.
This is a catalog you want to be in! Please listen to the following references to get yourself in the general wheelhouse of what they need:
"It’s Your Turn" by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - https://youtu.be/k-DjyexDQdI
"Everything Burns" by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - https://youtu.be/UZslDKksovM
"Memory Destroyer" by Christophe Beck - https://youtu.be/MwgR4RJua5M
"Electric Grounds" by Cryo Chamber - https://youtu.be/Sa6JmsemQvQ
Quoting the Library: "Instruments should not sound like Omnisphere 2.0 - instead, I encourage composers to create some custom-made textures."
Please send them well-produced Drone Instrumental Cues that evoke an overall unsettling moody vibe and feel. Your submissions should have state-of-the-art synths, minimal melodic movement, and stick to a singular idea throughout to keep your Cues cohesive. Incorporating some extra instrumentation (like sparse percussion, pulsing bass notes or pads, muted, cinematic sound design elements, etc.) could work to add a subtle sense of forward motion, but please be sure not to over do it! Less is more for these types of Instrumental Cues. Please be sure your productions are polished, and any and all virtual sounds you use are high-quality and cutting edge.
All submissions should be about 2 minutes long, give or take. Good edit points and non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings are required.

Cool textures in there. I wonder if that pulsing keyboard sound is too prominent a piece of the composition. I know it's not melodic, but it feels less droney to me. Other than that, I may try to make the second wave of the drone bigger so that the track has a sense of developing rather than feeling like two waves of the same drone.

I think you've got a good track here that fits the listing. My only concern is the extended amount of time it takes you to get to an edit point, and the edit point then lasts too long in my opinion. I don't think a break this big (if at all) is needed in this type of cue. Good work though!

Re: Asking for SYNTH DRONE feedback please!
Brent,
I just submitted for this listing a minute ago, so the ref tracks are fresh in my mind. The Trent Reznor tracks, in my mind, were much more melodic than the others, and not nearly as drone-y. But they did time out at about 2 min or less. Memory Destroyer had some interesting harmonic changes - like your track - but they came after the two-minute mark, so I wasn't sure if that kind of development would work in a shorter cue. And Electric Grounds had a lot of fade ins and fade outs, but its running time was almost 9 minutes! In the end, I played it as safe as I could and modeled after the first two ref tracks. Only the screeners will know which approach was the right one.
I like your track, it does share the sensibilities of the references. Good luck, my friend!

Thanks so much for the feedback! Those were good ideas, and I tried to make that second part of the drone a bit more dramatic in my final submission.nicorivers wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 8:38 amCool textures in there. Thanks for your feedback on this track too, Paulie! I was worried about that as well, so I tried to shorten the break in my final submission. I appreciate the encouragement!Paulie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 1:33 pmI think you've got a good track here that fits the listing. Thanks for listening Alan. This was a new attempt for me, so I appreciate you helping to tie the references together.AlanHall wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 6:43 pmBrent,
