INVESTIGATIVE TENSION feedback!

Post by BrentI » Wed Apr 19, 2023 10:47 pm

Hey again! Hoping to get a little more feedback...this time, on an investigative tension track. As I mentioned in a previous post, I've struck out on my last few submissions to this genre, so I really appreciate any input. Thanks so much!

CSI-Style INVESTIGATIVE TENSION INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a very successful boutique Music Library that's distributed by Universal for placements in Promotions, Advertising, and other TV Programming.

This is a catalog you want to be in! Please listen to the following references to get yourself in the general wheelhouse of what they need:

"3.3_5-vengeancep4ct.sib" by Mac Quayle - https://youtu.be/sddLQDK-ksE

"Race to the Finish" by Kenneth E. Belcher - https://youtu.be/2xLogd_Z9-E

"Flinch Mob" by Bleeding Fingers - https://youtu.be/1sY5-0fsJuw

Quoting the Library: "Instruments should not sound like Omnisphere 2.0 - instead, we encourage composers to create some custom-made textures."

Send them in top-notch CSI-style Investigative Tension Instrumental Cues that evoke a growing sense of suspense and urgency to solve the crime! Your submissions should have pulsing rhythms, engaging motifs, and slick arrangements in the general wheelhouse of the references. Please craft your Cues around a singular motif, and layer instrumentation in and out as they progress to create a sense of forward motion, interest, and dynamics. Your productions should be polished, and any virtual sounds you use need to be high-quality and contemporary.

All submissions should be about 2 minutes long, give or take. Good edit points and non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings are required. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY: "Many composers throw in way too many ideas and are not focused on ONE CENTRAL MOTIF: they try to keep things interesting by adding new harmonic lines and elements (melodies, even improvisations, etc.) instead of focusing on the productions and textures." Put simply, keep it SIMPLE! We know that other Libraries like to receive music with complementary A and B sections, but this Library is NOT one of them – stick with ONE CENTRAL MOTIF per submission, please!

Brent,
I think it checks all the boxes, great cue!
I'm hoping to absorb enough of the ref tracks to put something together before Saturday. See you in the forwards blog ;)

Brent,
Thanks for the encouragement. I did get one cue submitted, and another at the last minute that I deemed not ready. It'll be ready for the next listing ;)
