To be honest, I was thinking about your other track from a different post, not this one. I listened to the correct track and see where you are coming from. I went the classic jazz sound, you are going for more of a smooth jazz track. In my experience with Taxi, smooth jazz usually gets grouped in the "R&B or modern jazz" category, not cocktail.

This track reminds me a little bit of the late Art Porter Jr., a smooth jazz sax player who died in a boating accident in 1996. I loved his music (his dad was a well known piano player).

In your track I think the mallet lead takes it out of tv usability, and the soprano is a little loud in the mix. There are also some intonation issues on the unisons when you double the melody. I know a couple of libraries that would reject this based just on that.

This will all come down to what the screeners deem as "emotional cocktail." :) This is a good track nonetheless.

As with the others, it comes down to how much focus there is on "cocktail lounge". A track can be great but not a fit for the listing, as you know. As someone mentioned on one of the threads, you can listen to samples of cocktail lounge music in other good libraries and compare.

Also, too much/too loud lead melody is not a plus for Film/TV background. Play the track at very low volume and hear how much the lead melody stands out. As is, it would be hard to put this under dialogue.

Best of luck!

Thanks Casey, In any cases, good music always finds it's niche...

Thanks for the insight, did not know Art Porter... will check him out.
Takes time to ''understand'' what the listings is really saying...
Will address the intonation issues...
