Feedback about my Ukulele/Whistling submissions
Hey there Taxi mighties.
Hope you're all having a great.
I was wondering if I can get some of your critiques about 3 tracks i submitted to the following brief -
https://www.taxi.com/listings/S230504MM
I've submitted the following 3 tracks to that brief:
https://www.taxi.com/members/G4rfYZG0Q0 ... ng-ukalele
https://www.taxi.com/members/G4rfYZG0Q0 ... ng-ukalele
https://www.taxi.com/members/G4rfYZG0Q0 ... erre-mund-
*****
They all were returned and I'm adding up the returned review. It seems that the main reason for it not being forwarded is the whistling part.
at least that was my understanding.
To be fair I used a cubase whistling effect stretched on octave 2 of my 2 octave midi keyword, so I think he/she has a point there.
3 different feedbacks were delivered back to me and you can see them in the following link
https://www.screencast.com/t/3KfwGaqkgwq
It seems the main focus is on the whistling sound not sounding organic.
Would love to have your take about it trackwise and feedbackwise.
And while we are at it, does anybody here have an idea on how to improve a more organic whistling sound?
I've just downloaded this plugin to try it out

Thanks in advance & have a great musical day!!
Hope you're all having a great.

Re: Feedback about my Ukulele/Whistling submissions
In all three tracks the whistling immediately struck me as extremely fake & MIDI-sounding.
IF you can whistle yourself, why not record and autotune it?

Re: Feedback about my Ukulele/Whistling submissions
hi, i can hear your ideas and its potential for all 3 tracks...just a few constructive criticisms if i may, besides the obvious feedback...btw realiwhistle is definitely a step up, i have used it a few times myself, heres one of my tracks with it
https://catalog.bulletproofbear.com/track/39762275
1) Timing - I can hear timing issues on all 3 tracks, even if your going for a non quantized, organic sound, the need for better timing has to be addressed, especially on counter melodies or multi riffs, phrases that are happening simultaneously
2) arrangement - sometimes, less is more, specifically in elements happening. while some genres excel on layering or continuously adding elements til end (tension, classical), i dont think its a good fit for this type of corporate track. think more like a DJ or EDM producer... try muting certain instruments along the way, have one main instrument be the focus per section, create passages and sections by dropping elements somewhere in the middle, and build up again from there. try to take the listener through a journey complete with a beginning middle and end...
hope that helps and good luck

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.
So I agree the whistling is definitely not there. But I already downloaded and tried
RealiWhistle and that can be a nice game changer in this kind of tracks.
I also take into notice the timing aspect.
Thanks

Re: Feedback about my Ukulele/Whistling submissions
Not sure if you've swapped the whistling parts with this RealiWhistle you mentioned in your links above, but if you did, then it's still not cutting it. Sounds like a MIDI flute to me. Pretty blatantly apparent from the very first note that it's faker than a spray tan.
The best way I've ever found to get an authentic whistle is just to record the dang thing yourself, lol. There's nothing like the real thing, even if "real" is part of the name of a virtual instrument!

No, the 3 examples are with the Whistle MIDI from Cubase.
I've went ahead and tried RealiWhistle with new tracks I'm working on now.

To be fair it does sound pretty good.
I do consider the recording option, but I would love to see if the midi can manipulate it afterwards.
i.e. record the base sound of the whistle and try to manipulate the sounds so I can record multiple whistling parts.
Did any of you ever did something like that?

I think you're just going to be putting forth a lot of effort to create something with MIDI that you could just record from your own mouth in about 5 seconds. Seems like a bad use of time, but to each their own!

I agree with Matt and the others. Whistling is a human sound, this is so obviously not a human you are wasting your time other than the learning you get from doing so. Listen to the track objectively and ask yourself, "does this sound like someone whistling?" It does not. Have you tried whistling yourself? Proper use of Pitch Correction or Melodyne can really make a difference... if used properly.

All right, I'm convinced, lol
I'll make a whistling recording and will pitch correct it if needed. I'll re-post it soon
