Would this track qualify as a 1980s style pop/rock power ballads with Female Vocals in terms of expired listing # S2303?

Post by MJLeeman » Fri Aug 18, 2023 2:29 am

I saw the below listing earlier this year. I had been working on a 1980s style track at the time and tried to develop this in terms of the listing described below, but I gave up because it seemed as though Taxi's client was looking for a song about a dream, and I was confused as to how to relate this to a 'disgruntled former boxer' (see the listing below for details). Also, I found it difficult to recreate the 'dreamy' vibe of the reference, and the reference has four verses (so is over four minutes in length) and is very 'narrative' in character, whereas I have understood that songs for sync purposes should generally be shorter, and also more general so as not to distract from the action. Anyway, I missed the deadline, but persisted with the track for what it was worth, and hired a vocalist.

I would appreciate any advice about the music, and whether the version below might be in the general ballpark of what was asked for in this listing, or if not, is the track maybe otherwise usable in a similar sync setting? Also, suggestions for improvement of the track generally (musically and production issues) would be gratefully received.

Cheers
Michael

Listing:
1980s Style POP/ROCK POWER BALLADS with Female Vocals are needed for an (up to) $300, Direct-to-Producer/Director placement in an Independent Feature Film!

NOTE: We previously ran this request as TAXI Listing #S230309HT, but the Company is looking for more material, so they asked us to try again. If you submitted to listing #S230309HT, please send different material this time around.

NOTABLE: This Director used a bunch of TAXI member's music in his last film, and loved what he found so much that he came back for more this time!!

Quoting the Director: "TAXI was invaluable on [our last film]. Would love to work together again on this one."

This Director is on the hunt for Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs with Female Vocals that could work as a replacement for "These Dreams" by Heart which is currently temped in.

They're NOT looking for clones or soundalikes! Similar tempo, style, and overall vibe? Yes. Clones? No!

NOTE: This Director is open to hearing both high-quality vintage recordings (recorded back in the day), OR recently recorded Songs in the general production style of the reference.

About the Film: This is the story of a disgruntled former boxer who becomes responsible for taking care of his grandson and uses this new journey to help lay old grudges to rest.

Please send them engaging Pop/Rock Songs that capture the '80s power ballad style and sound of the reference. Your submissions should have unforgettable melodies, catchy choruses, well-crafted lyrics that are thematically in line with the example, and engaging, well-performed Female vocals. '80s style Pop/Rock instrumentation and arrangements are needed for this request, as well. Your production and any virtual sounds or samples you may choose to use need to be high-quality and era-appropriate.

Lyrics that avoid specific names, dates, times, brands, and places will make your Songs easier to place. Please do NOT copy the referenced artist or song in any way, shape, or form. Use it as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed. Era-appropriate Broadcast Quality will work for vintage recordings.

The license fee for this placement is (up to) $300, depending on the ultimate use. This is a Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Producer/Director placement, so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Copyright and Master Recording, plus you’ll also get 100% of the License Fee and any applicable performance royalties. You must own or control your Copyright and Master Recording to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Thursday, March 30th, 2023. TAXI # S230330RM

I think it works stylistically, sounds like 80's broadcast quality not sure about lyrically for this listing bu that doesn't matter now if it's passed.
