Game Show Theme

Post by davidagates » Wed Aug 23, 2023 8:28 am

Hi all,

Took a bit of a sabatical because I became a tad disillusioned (plus those $5 submissions add up!), but I'm back with a track for a listing I'll pop below. It's for the Retro Game's Show pitch. I've decided not to throw the kitchen sink at it this time, as some people know I've done bloody opera's for some of the listings. Just a very straight forward cue this time. Feedback would be massively appreciated.

Here's my track, the listing will follow: https://soundcloud.com/dave-gates-62481 ... al_sharing

Original, RETRO, GAME SHOW INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a globally distributed Music Licensing Company that's had a lot of success landing TONS of Major Network placements every year.

THIS COMPANY PAYS AN UPFRONT FEE! More info below.

This Company is looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could be heard on a playlist with the examples below:

The Hollywood Squares Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsgu2efvbC4

The Dating Show Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85t-xAv9xn0

Match Game Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXo9wAWn-hA

NOTE: You can submit recently recorded Instrumentals in the general style of the references that capture the authentic sound needed, OR if you have high-quality vintage recordings (recorded back in the day), they would love to hear those as well!

Please submit original, Game Show Instrumentals with a fun and kitschy retro sound! Your submissions should have unforgettable motifs, dynamic arrangements with forward motion and interest, and plenty of emotionally upbeat, feel-good energy. Instrumentation that's in the general ballpark of the references will work best for this pitch (energetic horns, engaging rhythms, retro synths, electric guitar, etc.). Please make sure your productions are well-balanced and era-appropriate, and that any virtual instruments or samples you use are high quality and realistic-sounding.

NOTE: This company is searching for Original Instrumentals only - not cover versions of existing game show themes.

Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Cheers in advance guys.

nice sounding horn patches you have there. it's a good bit slower than all of the references. it also feels like it's closer to a Motown vibe than a game show vibe to me.

David,
Is it all MIDI? I guess I'm asking if you can speed it up, a couple of clicks would do wonders for the energy level. Also, there's a lot going on with the instruments, have you listened to the mix without the wah guitar? Removing that might temper the funky Motown vibe a bit. Good luck!

It's majoratively midi, bar the bass and the guitars. I can chop the guitars out and redo the bass, I'll notch it up a bit speed wise. I'm always a bit paranoid with horns because I think they sound more artificial. But that's probably just me.

So I've sped it up and tweaked it a bit, adding a few bits here and there.

Was wondering if you guys would care to take a listen again?

It does have more of a game show vibe now, good work! It seems like the mix is a bit 'wet', though. Just a comment.

No, you're absolutely right. I had a listen with fresh ears yesterday and thought "this sounds very chamberish". Fiddled around with the digital mic placements, couldn't figure it out.

Turns out I had the brass 100% off to the reverb bus. Problem solved, haha.
