Genre?
I'm having trouble figuring out the different genres. I just wrote this song and I put it in YouTube. For genre, I listed it as pop ballad. I just noticed on YouTube they've reclassified it as contemporary Christian music. And I especially have trouble with country songs because if I hear someone like Keith urban it just all sounds like rock music causing me to second-guess some of my own songs that I might think are just rock might fall under country rock. I just don't know enough about music to know what determines the classifications.

Having checked it out - it still shows "Pop Ballad" in the description - but I wouldn't classify the song that way.
To these old-guy ears (I also do lots of Gospel-friendly song productions), you have created a piece that has crossover potential;
which could be a good thing, and open more doors.
The message isn't blatantly "Christian", per typical clichés; but the imagery created certainly could fit that.
I get the Keith Urban vibe, from the music & delivery (minus his ripping guitar chops & soloing); so you could pitch this as a
Contemporary Country - which is more of a blend of Pop & Southern Rock.
Hope that helps. Just my opinion; your mileage may vary.
Peter
PS: I'm curious to know who did the video - it's very well done, IMHO.

Re: Genre?
Thanks for the input. They didn't change it on my channel, but they used my song cover photo as promoting contemporary Christian music playlist with my song.
The crazy thing is my friend that had encouraged me to try my hand at songwriting, I just found out he died yesterday. How ironic to complete this song just this week.
Now I'm going to go back and reread what you wrote. Thanks again

Thanks, hadn't searched or explored for any of that.SusanAnnNorberg wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 2:49 pmha ha good thing I went back and reread your post. I make the videos myself for all my music it's fun and easy to do. I use Storyblocks.com they have a videomaker and tons of clips to choose from.
I've been content to my lyric-videos to simple, static, still photos.
Maybe I can learn to use something like what you've done.

Good song. Sounds pretty religous/christian to these atheist ears.

Hi I do not hear Christian music at all. It is a great write about losing the love of your life. It is heartfelt and gripping. Your voice is soft ,warm and clear with little to no
processing. Makes me want to march right into my studio and toss the song I wrote yesterday. IMHO this might be in the top ten I have ever heard on this forum and I have been hanging around here for a very long time. huge congrats to you

Re: Genre?
Well Mark, perhaps should a request for a song in the atheist genre come along, I can repackage this song and change the title to "I'll be worm food".

Wow Paul thanks for that boost in my confidence. Obviously that wasn't me singing but I'll be sure to pass along the high praise

Re: Genre?
Wow. What luck. I just got an email with a request for a pop ballad. I'm pretty sure that's what this is supposed to be. If anybody thinks it's something different let me know like I said I haven't been very good at figuring out genres. Fingers crossed.
