Feedback on Cyberpunk Song created for submission..

Post by themarkalanproject » Fri Feb 09, 2024 11:42 pm

Hi all!

I created this for the cyberpunk instrumental submission. This one I am really struggling at mixing. It’s sort of driving me insane. So I am taking a break for few days give my ears a rest. I was happy with how it sounded on my KRKs, studio headphones and multi channel denon 5.1 , but heard it on the soundbar today and it was terrible. Too much reverb around 2:33? Appreciate any feedback. Was a blast composing tho!

I use logic pro btw. Custom Kontakt tone for the synth lead.

Hi Mark,
I have no comments on your composition or production, I think it's a great track!

compared to the refs, though:
1. The three tracks came in between 100 and 110 BPM, yours is a couple of clicks faster. No idea if that's a bad thing.
2. The ref tracks also have a lot more 'glitch' and 'noise' in the patches used. That seems to be a common element in the ref tracks and other cyberpunk I've listened to since the listing came out.

I've been playing with some of the glitch/sequence features on a few VIs that I have never explored before. Very different from my normal composition techniques! Maybe I'll have something to show at the finish line.

Good luck!

I could use some feedback on production and composition. I can take criticism, you have to if trying to make it in this industry. I cannot grow and learn without it. Glad you think it’s great tho. It’s at 112bpm at times and 108 at one verse. Still have 7 months of schooling and just started getting into more advanced mixing techniques. What pisses me off is how drastically different it sounds on devices.

It would help a lot if you pasted the listing into your intial post so it's easy to knw what they are looking for

I agree with Graham, don't use a fade in, it's better to just come straight in with everything. I too was thrown off by parts of the track sounding out of key with the rest of it and it's also a lot longer than a normal cue for TV which tend to be around 2 mins.

Like in your other track there is a lot of stuff all competeing for space in the mid-range all at the same time, so learning to arrange your instruments better will make for an easier mix and more pleasant listening experience.

Mark

Ya. I might recut it before sound and do more pulsing effects and glitches. Probably slow it down. I might just submit two variations. Changed a lot since last week. Hopefully we both have success! Liked yours a lot on your post! Good luck!
