Ad royalties

Post by superkons » Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:27 am

I can finally report on how much in royalties my short Middle Eastern tune "Cheeky Camel" accumulated after being used for a whole month last year in an US-wide advertisement: according to my PRO report, the figure for that usage is shy of $1800, which I believe it is not bad for just the 2nd half of the tune being used over that period of time!

Wow. Congrats. No Upfronts? The ad opportunities that I've worked on (haven't actually gotten any of them yet) usually come with an upfront pricetag of $5000-$25,000. Backend royalties are just extra on top of that initial amount. I hope that you had a good deal and your library didn't pocket the initial upfront payment.

I will still buy the beers at the rally but the champagne is on you unless I get 10000 times more than my last payment of 00.45 cents before the rally!!

Ta, mate. It was on multiple channels, from what I could gather at that time

The tune was picked up from a catalogue on WCPM, they actually paid me $2000 upfront for all the 10 track of the album where the tune used is included, but that was it, no specific upfront for the usage itself

That's a great result Marco, congratulations on a nice little earner! :D
Great title too, and it'd be interesting to know how much that helped.
Much appreciated :) Yes, it would be very interesting to know what made them pick my tune up. The audio I heard contains no dialogue at all, only some sounds that I presumed are from a kitchen?

Guessing that might be a Sync buyout deal then, so they keep any sync fees in exchange for the $2k
