Is it worthwhile to submit Christian Hard Rock to regular Hard Rock listings?

Post by ACWhammy » Thu Jul 11, 2024 7:15 am

Hi all,

I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to submit songs with heavily-christian lyrics to hard rock listings that do not specifically request christian. The music and vocal style may be exactly what they're looking for but the lyrics are blatantly biblically-inspired. The reason I ask is because I saw this listing # S240717CK.

It'll only cost you $5 to get a screener's opinion; but, if the listing doesn't ask (for or against), then it would be a waste of your time, effort and money.
The only way to find out for sure, is to find out for sure. (Or, maybe try The Prayer Of Jabez method...).
:? 8-)
OR - just hold onto it until there's a client LOOKING for what you have to offer.

You're right, $5-10 is a relatively inexpensive investment to get some feedback. The listing didn't have any lyrical criteria with the exception of "well-written lyrics" and mostly referenced style and instrumentation rather than lyrics.

By the way, it also asked for a bio and photo but when I went to submit to the listing, there was no available option to add a bio and photo. Am I blind? How can I submit these?

Thank you,
Tony

Might be best to make a call into the TAXI office, to get your answer straight from the source.
I'm pretty sure they'll be happy to help you.
Good luck and God bless you - I hope it works out in your favor.

I agree with Cosmicdolphin, a hard NO, especially since the lyrics are "blatantly biblical inspired".

Assuming the music & production fits a hard rock listing's requirements, you *could* re-sing with different lyrics. For Film/TV, lyrics have to be what we call "universal"-- not too specific with names, places, etc., fits a wide range of situations, uses common themes like love, romance, happiness, success, etc. (Unless otherwise specifically requested).

If you have a listing in mind and are willing to consider different lyrics, post the current version in peer-to-peer on this forum. First, we can give our thoughts as to whether or not the music & production is a fit. Second, if it's a fit, you might find someone who wants to collaborate on the lyric re-write.

Best,
:D Casey

Just depends on how eager you are to flush $5 down the toilet, lol.

I personally wouldn't submit an overtly religious song to this listing. Hard Rock listings are usually looking for lyrics typical of the genre: kicking ass, dark imagery, partying, mental torment, etc.... In fact, I just listened to the ref tracks and the first on by Hardy is all about mental torment and the darker side of love. Then there's on Ozzy Osbourne ref track on the list too. So, I'd bet you a million bucks your lyrics aren't gonna work.

You MIGHT get some decent feedback from the screener that could be helpful to you overall, or they might just click the "not on target for listing requirements" button and offer a quick "ummmm, these lyrics are not what the company is looking for". Either way, I'd save the money if I were you.

My 2 cents' worth:
the listing states a label is looking for 'artists' and 'bands'. Are you ready to go on tour with your music? There needs to be a total package ready to go or the label won't be pleased. With that said, I don't see WHY NOT submit, as long as the music is really on par with the desired style.

Regarding a bio, Taxi will use the bio you provided under the 'edit profile' button on your member page. Your bio then shows up under the banner at the top of the page.
