Looking for feedback on my science/technology instrumental

Post by TLovato » Sat Dec 14, 2024 10:17 pm

Hey folks,

I'm writing a piece for # S241222EK, which is asking for electronic instrumentals for use in Science/Technology media. Listing is below:

Lots of ELECTRONIC-BASED SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a great Music Library with International Distribution and lots of success in Film and TV placements.

NOTE: We previously ran this request as TAXI Listing # D241112NT, but the Library wants to hear even MORE material. If you submitted to listing # D241112NT**,** please send different material this time around.

This Library is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could be found on a playlist with the following references:

"Discovery Technology Electronic" by cleanmindsounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuYspKS_n8I

"Ambient Technology Background Music" by BlackKiwiMusic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shBOxW0bEJo

"Electronic Future Technology Music" by Robert Lanting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3D9rz3URsM

Please submit well-crafted Instrumentals with electronic instrumentation and a sound that could work for educational programming, scientific documentaries, or technology-related content that would typically be seen on networks like the Science Channel and the History Channel, etc. Your submissions should have engaging motifs and dynamic arrangements that make the track(s) feel like it's moving forward and not too linear or boring. Instrumentation in the general wheelhouse of the references will work best, such as synth plucks, electronic drums, synth bass, etc. Some organic-based instrumentation could work, but the electronic side needs to be much more prevalent. Since these will most likely be used as underscore, please make sure there are no distracting elements or leads that could detract from the dialogue. Please also ensure that any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality, and modern.

All submissions should be about 2 to 4 minutes long (give or take) with non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

AI ALERT: This company does not accept or sign music that has been melodically composed using generative AI, nor does it accept backing tracks or full instrumental tracks created with AI.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Sunday, December 22nd, 2024. TAXI # S241222EK

My song I plan to submit is below:

Hi, IMHO this track doesn't match the brief. The ref tracks (and many others I've heard as well as made myself) usually have a 'neutral' emotion, are often modal, with some pulsing element (mainly bass), and hi-tec plucky sounds that often use delays. Many have unusual rhythm patterns using percussion elements, although these ref tracks use more conventional drum patterns and sounds (but still electronic). By comparison, your track sounds more like a retro song with the words removed, quite chilled, cute and major, although I'm not sure the bass and drum sounds work. For me, it doesn't suggest future technology or curiosity (as its title suggests). Sorry if that all sounds negative, but at least it might save you $5. :) However, you could still submit if you want to see what the screeners have to say.
Like it is, and 100% HI

I think you're wide of the mark here too like Graham says.

Take time to study the reference tracks closely. Write out a list of the elements in each track and triangulate what the formula is.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I realize my shortcomings here. Luckily I have another week to whip up another track that will be better this time!
