submitting a reimagined 80's Cover

Post by joesarahh » Fri Dec 20, 2024 3:22 pm

Submitting to 80's cover listing https://www.taxi.com/industry#listing-S250108GG I did Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" This is an entirely different style for me as I normally do Acoustic Americana, but I thought I might try it. I feel a little out of my depth so I kept it relatively simple. Now I know what I have here sounds good but I am looking for anything I might have missed for this kind of listing. Vocals to hot, wrong instruments, to simple, not close enough to the original melody, bad mix, you know, the kind of stuff one screws up when forging new ground. Thanks folks and a merry Christmas all around! https://s.disco.ac/fdjfqhvphbql

I really like the almost Tom Waits (at the start) re-take of this one. Well done on making the lyrics work with a totally different feel. That said, I note that the listing says..."we recommend sticking relatively close to the original lyrics and melody of the Song so it's instantly recognizable to listeners", so I'm wondering whether the screeners will consider that you've strayed a bit too far from the melody. See what others think.
Like it is, and 100% HI

Yeah, I am wondering that as well. It's not THAT far, but . . . . .

Nice. Actually very sexy. I would like it to build a little more. Drums basic that can build. Fills with maybe strings. It just needs to fill up so to speak. Enjoyed this and I hope you get noticed.
Sincerely
Paul
