Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share some thoughts after rejoining Taxi following an almost two-year break.
When I left Taxi, I was in a great place: I’d signed with four publishers, had a healthy number of placements, and felt like I was achieving my goals. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Taxi because none of that would’ve happened without the listings, the forum, and Taxi TV.
So why did I leave? The main reason was my frustration with how inaccurately placements were tracked, particularly international ones. I know experienced members will point out that it can take 18+ months for placements to show up on royalty statements. But in my case, there were numerous placements that appeared on Tunesat and, even after three years, never showed up on my BMI royalty statement.
At first, I tried to resolve this by contacting my local BMI representatives here in Europe. While they followed up, there wasn’t much progress. I also reached out to the publishers involved, and to this day, I’m still baffled as to why they seem to tolerate this. After all, they’re losing their 50% share of those royalties too.
At that point, I felt like I was fighting windmills. With technology like Tunesat available, the system started to feel outdated and frustrating. That’s when I decided to take a break.
Since then, I’ve made peace with those issues. Watching Matt’s fantastic YouTube channel reminded me that this is ultimately a numbers game. Instead of dwelling on small flaws, the best use of my time is simply to focus on writing and creating.
I hope these reflections resonate with some of you. I’m thrilled to be back, and I’ve already submitted to a few listings. I’m also looking forward to engaging with all of you here on the forum again.
Cheers,
Matt
