So how long after a Forward can one expect to hear from a library? After how long can one assume that something has been rejected by the library?

The suspense is killing me

This varies wildly. I asked this question last year and got responses ranging from “the next day” to “a year later”

Fwiw, I’ve signed two library deals from forwards and one contacted me after 3 months, the other after one month.

But also keep in mind that that’s 2 library deals (so far) out of 22 forwards for me. So the largest piece of the pie, by far, is “you’ll hear nothing back”

There’s a reason that “write, submit, forget, repeat” is the mantra

I kinda expected to hear this regarding library response times! Honestly it’s not surprising as this is generally how things have worked for me in the biz for the past 20 years! Some deals have been quick and easy while others have required zen-like patience.

It really varies. Sometimes it can be really quick, like a week or two. Other times it can be months or a year or more. Sometimes you may not hear anything. It doesn't mean it was rejected. You do great work. Stay encouraged !
