RETRO/CLASSIC-Style PUNK ROCK SONGS

Post by davidagates » Wed Jan 22, 2025 4:11 am

Hi guys,

Brancing out and doing a track with vocals. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, but a genre I know well. Not very fond of my voice, but I suppose in the instance of punk, particuarly old punk it's less important. Had to break a lot of personal prodcution rules, pulling out a lot of the bottom and top end due to it being era appropriate, but I'm finding it hard to be objective.

Here's the link (not finished) and the listing below:

https://s.disco.ac/xrfyrspqkdyr

Thanks in advance.

It's this listing:

Lots of RETRO/CLASSIC-Style PUNK ROCK SONGS with MALE Vocals are needed by a Music Library with a ton of credits in Feature Films, TV Shows, and TV Commercials.

NOTEWORTHY: This Company has been hustling lately, and is consistently seeing some great placements! Now is a great time to build an industry relationship with a Company that is on the rise and is working hard to land some really great spots.

This Company is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following references we got directly from the company's CEO:

"Blitzkrieg Bop" by The Ramones https://youtu.be/xPxsS_-LTe0?si=fQZ1f8c5JaV5upKl

"I Fought the Law" by The Clash https://youtu.be/AL8chWFuM-s?si=4bQIJL8gSLb5edSU

"Bloodclot" by Rancid https://youtu.be/qFNfMwdHez0?si=6KjsDnOuBXx8R6ao

IMPORTANT: This Company is open to both vintage material (recorded back in the day), OR recently recorded/produced Songs in the same style as the references. If you are submitting recently recorded material, it needs to truly capture the sound, feel, and vibe of early Punk Rock.

Please submit original Punk Rock Songs with loads of gritty, raw energy and a classic Punk sound that could be heard on a playlist with the references! Your submissions should have intense melodies, memorable choruses, hard-hitting rhythms, energetic guitar riffs, retro Punk motifs, and well-crafted lyrics with lots of rebellious energy. Punk Rock instrumentation in the general stylistic ballpark of the references will work best, such as distorted guitars, drums, bass, etc. Please ensure your production matches the general style of the references, and please ensure any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and realistic-sounding. Strong and energetic Male vocal performances with a distinct Punk sound and style are key!

Lyrics that avoid specific names, dates, times, places, brands, and profanity could make your tracks easier to place. Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Era-Appropriate Broadcast Quality is needed.

The only thing I would change would be to make it sound like recording your vocals was the board operator's afterthought, like you're on stage with a terrible sound mixer running things who knows the crowd is drunk and just wants to mosh. You nailed it and will probably get forwarded!

Hi David

This listing is a bit tricky because 2 of the references are from the 70s e the one is from 98!
So which way to go with production is a guess.
Maybe a bit more over drive in the guitar would help.
Cheers!
Andre

I've done just that! Also made the vocals and other bits a bit more erratic volum wise to match the earlier versions. Bit of slapback on the vocals as well as producers back then tended to chuck it on for a bit of a laugh.

Here's a revised version if you'd be kind enough to let me know your toughts (ending echoes need to go on longer, just cut it too soon!).

Definitely better. More raw and aggressive now.
Good job!
