Hi guys,
I've had a swing at this, as I'm a big Depeche Mode fan, I'm quite pleased with it, but the whole "here's the examples but do it modern" is a weird and difficult brief.
I'm looking for feedback if you don't mind before I submit.

Thanks in advance,

Re: S241209EC ELECTRONIC POP/ROCK INSTRUMENTALS
Hi Dave, I'll leave others to comment on production and suitability of the overall track, but just a few comments on some technical details....
- I believe one of the criteria was to sound current, but to my ears the synth and drum machine intro is a strong retro nod.
- The two halves of the track are different, which could make it difficult for an editor, should they wish to join sections from each half together.
- The transition at 1:06 between the two halves is a little uncomfortable as if some of the instruments are not following it.
- Perhaps that transition provides an opportunity for an edit point.
- From just before the outro there are several string squeaks, and some of the guitar strums sound behind the beat, so a little tidying might be in order.
These details are probably not be the most important ones to get right if the track is to progress, but are still worth considering.
Good luck with whatever version you submit.

I've added a transistion because I think you're absolutely right, I got bogged down in the "writing a song" element rather than "writing a cue".
You were spot on about the guitar timings at the end, I'm having latency issues at the moment which are the bane of my life, I've also removed the squeaks.
As per retro nod I actually went to listen to recent DM songs, as I felt that was the best way to get what they want. They seem to lean into the retro sound, with strong reference to certain guitar sounds mixed in, I did have a piano before but cosmicdolphin recommended switching it out. Personally I think it's better as the piano did make it sound like late 90's electronica, but maybe I'm too close to the coalface as a face of the genre. It's a very hard one, because this style relies heavily on referring to the past, so giving old examples and then saying "make it modern" isn't terribly helpful.
Anywho, it's better due to your input so I appreciate it.I think this'll be a roll of the dice sort of situation, being as vague as it is, fingers crossed though and if there's anything else then please do let me know.
Dave

Hello David, I'm curious to know if yours was forwarded. I submitted three and they were rejected for various reasons. I scoured the "Forwards" pages and cannot find any references to this listing, I really wanna hear what any successful tracks ended up sounding like!
