S250207ZZ Lots of JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS with GROOVE

Post by WarnerBorgia » Tue Feb 11, 2025 4:08 pm

Hi everyone,

First of all, I’d like to compliment the screener who—just like all the staff at Taxi—has once again demonstrated complete competence and attention in considering every aspect of the pieces submitted. In this case, he/she noticed a brief intro in Db followed by the main piece in C. I was aware that I had chosen a somewhat "quirky" introduction, but in my opinion, I don’t think it’s that "jarring."

To me, the unusual element is confined to just a few seconds at the beginning of the track, intended to catch the listener’s attention. After that, everything flows smoothly without any disruptive elements for the subsequent vocal placements in the video production (at least, that was my intention). Besides, Db can be considered as a substitute for the dominant G in the key of C, so I don’t think I opted for a particularly "harsh" solution: if you start with a little "tension" on the dominant and then you fall into the main key, it's not so "punk" (the rest of the song is absolutely without "surprises").

In any case, I respect the screener’s decision, however… if he/she eventually feel like reconsidering… thank you!

P.S. I can change the intro in less than 10 minutes. Even 5 (just gimme the time to change and mixdown again).

Chill, I'm good. Hugs to 396 and Taxi community ;)

Hey!

You should post a link to your track so we can be the judge :)

396 is a really good screener imo. Whatever they said is probably spot on and if you make changes they suggest your track will be better.

Having said that, it's too late for this listing. Taxi never lets you edit and re-submit. But you should still edit it! Another listing will come along at some point that you can put it up for again.

Finally, without having listened to your track, I can say pretty confidently that starting in Db and then hitting the tune in C almost certainly won't work for sync. For one, the tritone substitution you are doing only really works if you've firmly established your key center. If our ears don't know what key we're in yet it'll just sound random and jarring. Also, for sync, the intro really needs to establish what the rest of the tune is going to be like. Your intro likely accomplishes the opposite. Tritone subs are cool and my guess is if you firmly establish the key of C and resolve to it later in the tune using the tritone sub I bet it would be really effective. Just not as the intro :)

Hi, thanks for your reply.
As I also mentioned, I know that the screeners are top-notch, which is why I always apply their suggested corrections (when I can), and more than once, I’ve gotten a forward in later listings precisely thanks to their feedback.
This time, I simply wanted to take a small risk because the word "jazz" was in the listing title, and I hoped it would make the review a bit more lenient.
Basically, I made a last-minute decision to add a little extra spice by changing the intro right before submitting the track; I should have just left it as it was originally. Sigh.
No worries, though—the new version (or, better, the previous one) is already ready for any future opportunities.
All the best
W
