Opinions on return for 80's Rock listing

Post by BradleyHagen » Fri Feb 28, 2025 10:31 am

I am pretty baffled by this return I must admit..... I thought I nailed it!

Feedback: https://www.taxi.com/members/DVGQpc37Tk ... LGhmaBufww
Listing:
Lots of '80s-Style POP/ROCK SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a Music Library with a ton of credits in Feature Films, TV Shows, and TV Commercials.

NOTEWORTHY: This Company has been hustling lately, and is consistently seeing some great placements! Now is a great time to build an industry relationship with a Company that is on the rise and is working hard to land some really great spots.

This Company is searching for Up-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following references we got directly from the company's CEO:

"White Wedding" by Billy Idol

"Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams

"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar

"I Hate Myself for Loving You" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

IMPORTANT: This Company is open to both vintage material (recorded back in the '80s, give or take a few years), OR recently recorded/produced Songs in the same style as the references. If you are submitting recently recorded material, it needs to truly capture the sound, feel, and vibe of the era.

Please submit original Pop/Rock Songs with a sound and style straight out of the '80s! Your submissions should have powerful melodies, unforgettable choruses, great musicianship, engaging rhythms, lots of energy, solid arrangements, well-crafted lyrics, and well-performed vocals. Instrumentation in the general ballpark of the references (guitar, bass, keyboard, synth, drums, etc) will work best, but please ensure they have an era-appropriate sound and performance style. Any virtual instruments or samples you use should be high-quality and true to the genre/era. Bold, expressive vocal performances (Male or Female) could be what helps get this Company's attention! Original Songs only, please.

TAXI Tip: If you are submitting new material, pay extra close attention to the instrumentation, production choices, and overall sound that was popular in the '80s! Nailing the drum tones, guitar tones, synth/keyboard tones, reverbs, etc. could help elevate your track and increase your chances of getting this Company's attention!

Lyrics that avoid specific names, dates, times, places, brands, and profanity could make your tracks easier to place. Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Era-Appropriate Broadcast Quality is needed.

AI ALERT: This company does not accept or sign music that has been lyrically or melodically composed using generative AI, nor does it accept backing tracks, full instrumental tracks, or vocal performances created with AI.

This Company offers a NON-Exclusive, 50/50 deal. You’ll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer’s share. The Publisher will get 50% of any sync fees and 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this pitch. Please send as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. Please include lyrics! All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Monday, February 17th, 2025. TAXI # S250217AY

I mean, if my track were any closer to Billy Idol? He would drive to my house and kick my ass personally! lol

Hey Bradley! "White Wedding" is near and dear to my heart, wayyyy back in the 80s when I was in high school I sang it at a pep assembly along with a three-piece combo that did a pretty faithful reproduction of the music. Your track sounds super-clean to me, everything is in perfect tune and the vocal performance is a bit of a caricature. Listen closer to Idol's performance, he slurs his words sometimes and is even a little pitchy. I think the guitars are overdubbed three times in WW and they all have the same tone. You've got a synth at the outset that never seems to go away. Not that it's bad! You're a lot better at this than I am. I just think you missed this part of the listing:

"it needs to truly capture the sound, feel, and vibe of the era"

Save it for next time!

Hey Bradley
I don't know if I'd have the same thoughts had I not read the screener's comments first. It's hard not to immediately listen for what you just read about.

The vocal didn't sound that on the nose 80s to me. And the chorus is a tad pre-chorus-y.

We win some, we lose some. It's cliche by now but Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat.

:D Casey

Great feedback Casey, and your mantra is definitely NOT a cliche...... I live by "Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat!" This track is already in other libraries, and you are spot on when you tell all of us that without the TAXI brief?? It probably would not have been written and recorded in the first place!
