With three returns from my first three submissions I'm starting to understand how on-target and request specific the tracks need to be! Nothing pre-taxi produced will work unless heavily edited and rearranged. It's so easy to wander off the right trail and do too much, too little or too wrong.

I've heard some of your stuff and you certainly have the chops. You just need to nail the listing. I guess it's a question of having the right mindset and always keeping your eyes and ears on the target. But what do I know, I'm just a noob! :ugeek:

Nahh man, you are on point.... The OLD me would be thinking "what the f do these people know?" etc etc....that is what is called a "Shadow Mindset" My new mindset is to identify what is not working, why it is not working, and learn how to fix it! It seems like most people go though this with sync..... I guess I just have to figure it out! Thanks for the comments

Sorry to hear about your 0 fer 10, my friend. Like cosmic said, definitely approach some libraries about an album of that style. Networking at the rally is great for this-- some of the best library opps are with former Taxi members who are now library owners, doing a great job of landing placements.

And, as we've talked about on and off line, if it wasn't for the listing you wouldn't have these 10 funk tracks!

Best,
Casey

It would be awesome for you to share a link to even just 1 of the submissions and then post the critique sheet. I am sure some of the awesome experience and talent on here would give some great specific guidance. For my part, it'd be great not only for you but for the community in general to have a conversation about your work as a way to learn and grow vicariously.

Your "new" mindset is THE mindset. Sounds like you are already having success. I hope that will be consolation as you work through the process.

You did state, "I seem to think that even a 2 minute instrumental track needs 2 or 3 sections, but apparently not... I also tend to overplay and show off, which is the opposite of what they want.. I have work to do!!!" Can't really KNOW without hearing at least one track but I would suggest that - given the statement - you are exactly correct. KISS (Keep it Simple Silly). For my part, I am staring to conceptualize cues as #1 (Genre Proof) , #2(Emotion/Vibe), and #3 (Usability/Structure). If you are all three of those things, whether now (THIS listing) or later (post-Library relationships), it will be signed.

I find the prospect of hearing your stuff exciting and hope you will share. But, even if not, I find your attitude to be refreshing and important. Way too many folks want to burn it down due to a few returns.

Hi Brad
When you write a song it's usually for yourself and you can do it your way as an artist.
For Sync It's different
Put yourself in the seat of the Requestor
I like the shoe store analogy.. Lady goes into the shoe store and asks for red shoes and you come out and give her brown shoes. Give them exactly what they want.
Don't forget good old edit points The editors will love you
Listen closely to the instruments used and you use them too.
Make note of the tempos and shadow those.
Record at 48khz 24 bit
Most are looking for modern.....Don't sound dated
Don't be afraid to use automation

Don

40 or 50 forwards? Nice! I have 5...out of my last 40 submissions (just counted). You know quite a bit more about it than I do!
