Here's how I got the bass sound I wanted, from an Olivia Rodrigo song

Here's how I got the bass sound I wanted, from an Olivia Rodrigo song. It took me 6 pretty easy steps. This is for a new song I just started for a Taxi listing that's due on 07.12.25:

1. I used moises.ai to separate out the bass from her song so I could hear it isolated
2. Since it's a synth bass, I started with the Monark plugin (based on MiniMoog). Then I asked Grok what presets on that plugin would get me in the ballpark of her sound – and it even gave me knob tweaks to make!
3. I played her bass part on MIDI so I could compare my sound with hers
4. I EQ matched
5. I added saturation
6. Once I had the sound I wanted, I came up with my own bassline

If you think it would be helpful to see all that, here it is in a short video: https://www.instagram.com/p/DLam1kXCBMA/

Yep that's how you do it

Except we had no AI stem splitters or Grok to suggest any settings before now...just did it by ear and experience, or sometimes a Google search would find some clues

Good use for AI though

Totally... the time saving aspect of it is nice. And the idea that it can help you along as you're getting the experience to do it the old fashioned way.
