Some might like that selection of opportunities. What would you prefer instead?

Yeah, what would you prefer then?

As a Finn I'm intrigued by the nordic folk listing but I don't have any of the instruments needed for that. I don't even have a kantele which would be sufficient to produce Finnish folk music so I'm going with the glitch electronic music instead. I kinda wish there wasn't any interesting listings because I'm having a hard time getting back to the studio after being on vacation for several weeks. Tomorrow I'll get back to doing office hours at the studio.

These listings are not your more typical pop, rock, country, hip-hop, r&b, etc. True. But there is another side of it. Music libraries and supervisors are saturated with great music in the more common genres and styles. If you can develop a talent for more niche listings, you have a better chance of placement. Not saying it's easy and I readily admit it's not for me. But something to think about.

I loved these listings! Realized I have a lot of authentic African instruments in my vst library (mostly EastWest Composer Cloud stuff, some Independence stuff from about twenty years ago) and took a stab at one. It was returned for being too repetitive but you know what the screener started with?

"What I like most about this song
The instrumentation and arrangement feel true to style, transporting the listener to an immersive cultural setting."

So it was a productive challenge for me! And now I can revisit it if the same kind of listing crops up again.

Sometimes it's just fun to get outside one's wheelhouse. Yeah, this is a business and we all have our strengths in certain genres. But don't forget to have fun every once in a while! And keep in mind, this is a worldwide business. I signed a few tracks with a publisher in the Netherlands a couple months ago that no one in the U.S. was clamoring for because the tones & styles didn't fit current needs in our prominent markets.
