2nd-option: playback speakers?

Post by funsongs » Mon Aug 18, 2025 2:50 pm

Greetings techies (from a non-techie) -
My current work-station sound is a pair of JBL 305s, an iMAC desktop, and a Focusrite 2i2.
I would like to be able to switch to - or add - the option of hearing more brilliant high frequencies (tweeters);
and possibly a sub-woofer for the ultra low-end stuff.

It's a small space, corner of a room - so the gear doesn't have to be huge
or have to handle lots of volume. I'm just looking to hear more dynamics, larger range.

Recommendations appreciated - thanks.

Are you listening recreationally or are you mixing?

I use the 305s for testing mixes only;
but I would like to have the option to 'switch over' to listen on something
that has the crystal-clarity of, say, a Bose home entertainment system (like I used to have).
The monitors do not pick up those brilliant highs, nor have quite the 'thump' of a subwoofer.

I could do without the sub, but would like the brilliance of hearing cymbals and hi-hats, etc.

Thanks for the reply/question.

I see, the JBLs are studio monitors and you want to listen on something a bit more flattering, right? Yeah not sure these days what's what but if you've enjoyed Bose in the past why not go that route? I have a Bose satellite system ( 2 mini speakers and a sub) that I still enjoy listening on, had it for years and i don't think it was expensive at all. Something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Bose-Companion-M ... B00064X4QM
