Where art and commerce meet, there has always been friction. Without that friction, the spark of creativity might never ignite the flame of...[coughs, retches, loses toke]

Re: Commercial vs Creative
I'd like to see a book "The Best of Taxi Forums" and I'd certainly want this thread in the first few pages. Fabulous. I don't have much original to add except perhaps the following perspective, which is not so much creative vs commercial, but it is creative vs work. Specifically, scales: we all laboured uncomfortably or joyously over immense hours of scales but, when the time comes, the manner or method of the achievement is irrelevant, the creative mind can take over and drive that labour into free creative endeavour. So, in terms of this thread, for me taking a given genre and being creative within specified limits is an exciting challenge on a par with "let's climb Mt.Everest". Bye Michael.

It was a total grind but I just finished it. Just completing it was a success for me. 3-months later with good reviews and thousands of fans, I guess I made the right choice. But for my extremely narrow genre (Contemporary Hawaiian - about as narrow as you can get), I am nearing the peak. I don't play live so that means I get to keep writing and writing and writing ....And Thank God I don't chase the neon rainbow anymore. My motivation is different.But...... there IS one new TV Show I'd like to submit to but they haven't posted a listing yet..... Ed Bernero's Hawaii Five-0. We'll see OMFG!!!!! Dude excuse the language but I'm on your MySpace site..... LOVE YOUR STUFF!!!! Very cool!!Peace, GeoThank you for your kind words Geo. I'm just a humble singer/songwriter that tries....
