Question about song ownership and taxi

Nice stuff here, a good start. The third song has some potential, in my opinion, but the guitarist is attempting to play beyond his ability on the other two cuts, but hey, he's in tune and gettin' a good sound, so points for that. The middle tune has audio issues, I wouldn't worry 'bout that one, too much of the wrong kind of distortion. In your shoes, I wouldn't get down about the situation, like Steve and others have said, these few songs won't likely make or break your career. There is such a thing as a producer royalty for performances, but it's relatively new and only applies in certain situations; Soundexchange has an explanation on their site. Given that the songs are registered in both your names with the copyright office, I'd say you have a pretty good chance of participating in any financial returns earned by the songs, if any, as long as you're willing and able to sue. Chalk it up to experience, and next time, get it in writing, so that everybody involved knows what's expected.Disclaimer: I am not, nor am I the current pelvic affiliate of, a music business attorney.

Before anyone else goes off on this guy's partner, take a minute to remember there are 2 sides to every story. I myself have been guilty of presenting the good things I do, without acknowledging the entire truth. Hi Everyone,In response to the money owed, part of it is for his Taxi membership 150 $ (half of his membership, and cds burned. I've decided to just join Taxi myself thanks to all the helpful advise and suggestions, And will submit these songs plus many more that I've had stalling on the back burner thanks to that project with my "friend".And he is an friend, a long term friend and a close friend, so it makes it all the harder. I've always known he was on the greedier side but he such a good guitarist and usually a fun guy to be around. But when it came to money and dealing with control issue he lways tried to get more and we found out our melting point.I'm almost certain we will never work together again... Thanks to everyone who posted and I'm gunna just keep doing my thing and I got alot more to come, which I will try to keep posted here for anyone interested.Aloha from Hawaii,Jerry (Alto Zenith was the band me and my friend had B4 we split up )

Hey!New Member here and this is my first post. There are some great ideas here and I think your covered by your copyright. IF it was an SA copy right your 50% owner of the lyrics and melody.Anyway. Forgot to mention that in the absence of a contract whether written, aural (on a cd cassette or other medium) your friends side and even yours, would be hard to prove in court.

Well was your friend refering to procuer or executive producer? Not the same at all.The Producer is the one giving ideas, having a vision, controling the quality of the song. If you both did this, you should both be entitled with producers credits. but then again, producers credits don't mean anything if it's not a final product, if it's a demo and you'd have to record everthing again with another producer, he'd be the one getting credits, not you nor your "friend".If he was taling about executive producer (the one who pays and invest to produce the track) it's another story. Let's say you recorded at your place, means you paid for the studio (even though it's yours). and he paid for 200 copies of the CD or whatever how many you guys should just call it even. You have to take in the fact that your time worths something.Anyhow, I sure hope this will end up in a good way!Ben
