Any soundtrack cover forwards?

Post by allends » Sat Jan 31, 2009 8:23 am

Mine didn't make the cut because "Instrumentation and performances need to sound authentic for this listing." I tried to make mine provide "different takes on the themes", but I suppose I either went too far or my samples weren't good enough. Hmmm. My returned project:Cover - PiratesAnyway, since I invested three weeks of my life in this project I'm wondering who made it through and how does your good stuff sound! AllenORCHESTRAL COVER ARRANGEMENTS OF POPULAR SOUNDTRACK THEMES a la Charade, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Robin Hood, Star Wars, etc. are needed by an Independent Record Label for a Compilation CD project that will be released by a Major Distributor. This company has signed dozens of TAXI writers for use on projects distributed by Sony/BMG, Universal, EMI, etc. These arrangements need to be lush, orchestral performances of any well-known soundtrack theme - including those mentioned above. You don't have to duplicate the exact arrangement of the original and the company will actually be quite interested to hear different takes on the themes, as long as the original is clearly recognizable. It's okay to blend different instrumentation with the orchestral core, but be sure not to stray too far from the original sound. Vocals are okay if they act as instruments - oohs/aahs - and not as clear melodic/lyric vocal lines. Original compositions that have a distinct and thematic "soundtrack" feel will be considered, but reproductions of popular themes will be the focus for this one. Instrumentation and performances need to sound authentic. Master Quality is necessary for this one, though great home recordings should be just fine. Please submit 1-3 tracks online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than January 19, 2009. TAXI # Y090119TV

Wow Allen, that's pretty impressive imo. Some of the work that you and others here do with these orchestral listings is mind blowing to me, I really mean that.

Hey, you're proving - once again - what a cool place this is: I blew it big-time with this one and someone I admire (that's you ) jumps in an says just the right thing! Allen

Allen,I would tend to view the glass half full on this experience. If you spent three weeks tweaking all the strings etc. you most likely increased and improved a skill set that is transferable to other tracks. The only observation on the track is that an orchestrator would probably not have the guitar play the melody all the way thru. Even as a guitar player, I wanted the guitar to drop out in places to create more of a conversation with the orchestra.Chuck

Since there won't be any takers for this track I'm free to change it. BTW: I do see the glass as half full on this experience. The challenge was a real thrill and I learned a lot.So nobody here got a forward to this listing?Allen

I think it sounds amazing as always! But I tend to agree regarding the guitar playing. Maybe another instrument could do the lead, and more dynamics in the string section. That is not easy to do thou with a computer. Only ultimate members in this thread..

Hi Allen, Good work! I thought you completely captured the style here. I agree with the guitar - I think it would sound more Orchestral with a variety of instruments carrying the tune and the guitar further back. I didn't get round to creating a piece for this because I've been focused on comedy and drama pieces. I get put off when they say "make sure it sounds authentic" because I know I'm a long way off in technique yet. Anyway, this was well worth doing for reasons already mentioned. You will find other listings to submit it to, without doubt. GeorgieNON-ultimate member

After I upgrade my sounds to EWQLSO I'll see how real I can make it. I over-did my guitar playing because that was the only real thing going on in the song. Silly me, I thought that would make it "authentic" in its own way. Aaaaah, the best laid plans... LOLGeez... since there aren't any forwards to party about, I'm starting to wish this thread was in the peer review section. Thanks Again,Allen
