help - codec - mp3 won't play problem
Hey,Twice recently I've gotten this error message when trying to play an mp3. Never happened before.Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found.I can download codecs, from WMPlugins.com, but which one(s)?? How do I figure that out? Thanks,Dean

Re: help - codec - mp3 won't play problem
The only times I've ever gotten a message like that was when I tried to play HI-fi streaming versions of mp3's from TAXI's hosting pages when it seems this laptop can only handle Lo-fi streaming mp3's.But I know next to nothing about the cyber world, so feel free to chuck my $.02 out the window...Ted

No, that's not my problem .. I don't think. One was an mp3 that was emailed to me. And I can play hi-fi on my computer.Dean

Hmmmm...I've had wave files fail to play in Windoze when the bit settings or sample frequency were too exotic.A quick check for me has been to pull the file into Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ and see if it will play there. Audacity can then export into another format, if I really need the file.Audacity wouldn't help with the streaming audio though...and the hassle of launching another software app to preview a tune would get old pretty quick.Let us know when you figure it out...I'm sure there's 1/2 dozen folks lurking that wouldn't mind fixing the same thing!

Re: help - codec - mp3 won't play problem
Thanks everyone. Looks like my problems may be two separate things. Neither really a missing codec .. like the message says. lolOne looks like a streaming problem .. kinda like Ted spoke of above. The other looks like just a 'bad' mp3. But aim .. I may try the download anyway.Dean
