Plenty Forwards, No Deals! Am I Do??

Post by lilcity1 » Thu May 08, 2008 3:40 pm

Now that my, testing the Taxi waters is over and I am clear on whats broadcast quality and what is not, I felt I should post this thread. Total to date I submitted to a number of postings. Some in which I felt the songs were good enough but the quality of about 4 or 5 weren't broadcast quality to me. However, I wanted to see if those tracks would be satisfactory to taxi's broadcast quality listings. Taxi past the test! They were returned for that exact reason: "NOT BROADCAST QUALITY." Knowing that I couldn't slip unpolished tracks past their radar, I continued on, only submitting good quality material. To date I'm realistically around 16 out of about 23. I'm pleased with these results but I wondered... is it like this for alot of people on Taxi, or am I exceptional? Humble as I am, I figured that its probaly like that for alot of people. though I have a good record for forwards, I still don't have any deals closed! So I ask : "Am I DO?" Or do most people pay more dues and deserve it more? Just looking for some feedback to see where I stand thats all. Thanks!

well man, time is a factor too, sometimes a year before a call back, so I wouldnt say no deals just yet, although you have to remember, getting past taxi means you are good, getting off that desk of the a&r means you where the best on the desk, two very seperate ballparks

I don't see the point in doing the math. Many of us have struggled for a year or two or three or four to have the first magic "Forward", others came in with music at the right level and hit the ground running. Comparing my journey with someone else's doesn't really get me anywhere, because I still have to do the work of growing my own skills, getting my own tools, targetting the listings, etc. I have more Forwards now than I did before but I still get Returns. I learn from both.In terms of what to do, this question is asked almost every week... keep writing, keep submitting, and repeat. oh yeah, my main point was just to "never be content" the second you actually like your music and current abilities, you are losing the warhaha, you should always come from the stance that "if I knew what i knew now, that song would have been better"and that is just brotherly advice, dont think I am speaking as an expert, personal philosophy only
