Now wait just a cotton-pickin minute, Von. I thought I was the one in the obvious minority... Seems to me, posting about the secret, and respecting everybody's talents and humanness ... are seen as either wacked or misguided opinions, by lot of people too. So am I on the same minority boat as you? Imagine if you will, a boatload of talented people, all thinking they don't fit in, sailing away to a beautiful place where money doesn't matter as much as good intentions. Maybe I just need to go and play light jazz on some cruise ships for a few years, and drink myself silly. Quote:Obviously, I am in the minority. I am who I am and I'm proud to be me...

I never said jazz is the only music. You can display true instrumental virtuosity in any genre. And, yes Steve, I am in the minority. Just look at what drives the music industry....

There you go Aj, which is what we were talking about, the sophistication of the piece is 'amazing'. In that I know I would not have thought through the innovative barriers to combine so much sound in such an innovative way. And I think its something I had never heard before.ArkJack

"Pat Boone Rocks" Windowman that was the greatest! Completely out of nowhere - but great. I'm guilty of not paying attention to all the buzz at times - and the Amy Winehouse buzz... for the most part, has garnered no attention from me. The "Herion Chic" image has been done already, unfortunately its not just an image in this case. Sounds like America fell in love with "The Dap Kings" sound and Amy could have been about anybody.

I didn't see Amy's Grammy performance...But I like her tunes and production... Nobody talked much about how money controls what we hear on the radio and see on TV...And dictates who is popular and who wins these awards....Of course there will always be some folks with great music/talent that we'll never hear because of some A & R guy with a $3000 suit that doesn't know crap about music...Fortunatly others get through the cracks of the crooked music industry...''There are two kinds of music...Good and bad '' - Louis Armstrong MG

One thing seems to be common in this thread......Love her or hate her.......If you saw it......You remember that Grammy performance. Sure she was pitchy and looked like she might've come close to falling over but her quirkiness made me more curious about her and I didn't forget her as soon as I saw her.I kind of got a kick out of her little Kermit The Frog dance with those skinny legs and all. Yes I saw the flaws but I was entertained and intrigued enough to check out some more. This is a repost I believe of one of ajenkz linksAmy unpluggedI really actually like this version just like it is and it doesn't get any simpler than her singing live accompanied by one acoustic guitar. IMHO The song still holds up!I think her quirkiness makes her memorable and the song sticks in my head.If she can stay alive long enough, I do believe her music could have a good amount of longevity but of course only time will tell there. On another note.........Sometimes the artists you might really admire that have reached a level of "perfection" in their craft have also become a wee bit too predictable and "perfectly boring". I know a number of artists I used to admire that became that way. There are too many artists to mention from "the old days" that I felt their music just had that certain charm or charisma when they were battling substance abuse, depression or some other extreme down moments in their lives. Then later on down the road when they cleaned up or find religion, centered themselves or whatever it was that set them straight, their music seemed to lose that spark. You'd think finding your natural bliss would make your music more awesome. Unfortunately that hasn't always been the case.I'm in no way advocating any kind of abusive nature whether it be substance or even just making some very destructive choices to be creative and unique but it's just an observation I've made of certain artists that used to "move me" and later on seemed to have lost that certain something.Sorry I got a little off topic........I'm sure your mileage will differ and it's just my $.02.

also, I have to completely disagree with the Koby Bryant analogy. Basketball is a game with a clear cut winner and loser. Music is subjective, one person's love of a classical sonata is no more important then a 12 year olds love of Amy Winehouse or whoever. So to answer the original post, I would say Amy is talented, but I do not consider her "Amazing" (in terms of the Amazing post)
