hee hee, a tiny graduation
Those of you here who know me... know how hard I have struggled to understand the technological side of things when it comes to setting up computers for audio production, recording software, plug-ins, effects, and orchestra(s). So imagine me on Skype this morning with fellow dot JamesM. He'd downloaded demos of a couple of different recording software applications and found that Tracktion seemed the most user friendly. He'd installed his EWQL Gold Bundle. But he couldn't figure out how to use Gold as a plugin in Tracktion. So there I was, telling him how to set up the path for his plug-ins, etc. He called me back to say he'd got it set-up so he could (at last) see the plug-ins on the filter menu in Tracktion -- we got it playing his midi!!Me, ME, giving someone else advice on how set-up their recording software so that it WORKS. HA ha ha ha!!

Bravo, Vikki! One of the young guys at work said his puter quit. I was able to diagnose it as a bad power source, and tell him how to change it. Three years ago I couldn't start a computer. I know exactly what you mean. Way to go!

Way to go Vikki!! It's pretty much like learning music, everything adds to everything else! BTW: Tracktion 3 got a very nice review by Jim Aikin in, I think, Mix magazine recently. From the review it looks like it's gotten much more flexible without losing it's ease of use. I think you've made a good choice in sticking with it, I think it will take you to the next level and beyond.Way to go!!Mazz

Doesn't sound tiny to me at all. It sounds like it's starting to get embedded in your psyche, sort of like that first time when it clicks in your head and you actually GET how to conjugate verbs in French. This is a great sign, don't you think?wooHOO. Can hardly wait until I know what "compression" means...

Great work, Vikki!Your post sounds soooo techno-- you totally lost me! The post was out of my league with all those acronyms and techno words. I often see the phrases EWQL Gold Bundle, Tracktion, etc. in these forums, and I kind of glaze over... Seriously, I can totally relate to what you are saying. I feel like that with ProTools and engineering mics now. I remember when my husband first purchased the PT software in 2002, and it sat in my living room at my Mac computer for over three months before I was even able to get my courage up to consider installing it (I could just barely surf the net and check my e-mail at that time). As it happened, my husband opened the box, wrote a little tune and played it for me when I came home from work that day. He showed me how he made a track, and the rest was history! And to think when I first came to the TAXI Rally in 2003 that I thought a "chorus" was a group of people that I had singing on my CD... Geesh. What fun to look back on how much we've learned! So hat's off to you, Vikki! I'm vicariously enjoying that experience with you. What fun to share the knowledge and skills with others and to feel the gratitude of being able to do so! Your posts continue to give hope to newcomers, both on the forum and in the field of recording. Thanks for sharing all that you do. Raags
