Need help picking a genre

Post by drumbri » Thu Dec 06, 2007 4:59 pm

Hi, I'm brand new here and I need help. I write a wide varriety of music and as I posted my first couple songs I realized they dont quite fit into the list of genres to pick from. Please give a quick listen to the first couple songs on my page and post any advice you think may be helpful. Thank you!

It's *kind of* world music in the sense of cross-over "worldbeat". Basically Latin/Island flavored pop.I don't think it's anything a label would sign, but there might be possible applications in tv/film, if the mixes can be brought up to broadcast quality. It's not gonna be the most marketable thing in that field though since the songs aren't really "authentic" Latin or Caribbean.HTH,matto

I listened to the first two songs and liked them. The first had a definate zydeco groove to it and would be a great bar song. I'm not sure who you would pitch it to though. The second song was definately (to me) a Parrothead anthem. Both tunes sure sounded countryish to me and could find a niche in that area. As an exercise, you might want to pick a catagory and write something that is targeted to that style rather than writing first and trying to catagorize later. Just a suggestion. There's obviously some real talent there. Keep on pushin'.Steve
