Recording in 30 minutes

Post by chrislabbe » Thu Nov 22, 2007 2:43 pm

I was watching one of the videos on youtube that taxi put up and John Brehany mentions a lecture or an article on how to do a recording in 30 minutes that Michael Laskow did at some point. does anyone know where i can find this? is it on the taxi site and i missed it? any help appreciated...those videos are well worth watching if you havent seen them yet. they're here:http://au.youtube.com/user/taximusic

They took that down. It was a youtube video, but it wasn't really a very realistic example of the real world requirements for composing successful library music.

I didn't see the video, but in my experience doing a track of 1-2 min length in about total 2-3 hours (from scratch, original music) is possible - BUT needs a very well organised environment, lots of practice and strageties to write & produce that works for YOU (and that part is very individual).besides that I don't think it's that important if you need 2 or 5 hours to finish a track - what counts at the end of the day is the quality of our music.cheers, martin

You know, I haven't really timed myself, but don't most composers and orchestrators generally estimate that they can only get between 1.5-2.5 minutes of quality music completed per day?Of course, all that depends on how light or heavy the orchestration is, so some days you might be able to crank out 5 or more minutes a day. What is everyone else's estimate on cranking out quality music per day?Knowing myself, and the way I work, I think it might be tough to finish 3 minutes of orchestral music in one 8-hour day. Of course, I usually spread the process out when I can. In other words, I put up the rough outline, and let it sit overnight, then go back and improve stuff, then do a rough mix, then let it sit overnight, and then do a final mix. So, I've never really counted how many hours per finished minute I usually take. But, then again, maybe I'm really slow...
