A surprise Thanksgiving Blessing...

Post by tedsingingfox » Thu Nov 22, 2007 5:16 pm

Hey, you guys.I am not making this opening statement for sympathy, but just as a fact...I have nobody in this little town to share the "Holiday" (read: "far too often a drunken, awkward stressful bitch fest) with. But I wanted to spend some time on the boards today to be among my new family of choice. And here I am, currently the one and only member online. And as many of you know, I have no phone or TV or radio or internet access at home; so I spend most of my online time here, at The Alley Cantina. After months of sitting here eating and drinking and working on the computer for hours at a time, I've become CERTAINLY "a regular", if not actual friends with most of the staff.I had just sent my blood family an email telling them how much I miss them and how hard it's been on me having to cancel two different trips to Arkansas to see my folks because my father's cancer/chemo hasn't allowed him to travel or allowed my sisters and I to travel to him, due to the risks involved to his basically-non-existent immune system. Then, behind me, just a minute later, I heard the staff all wishing each other Happy Thanksgiving and hugging each other and sitting down to their home-made-and-brought-in-to-share turkey dinner/potluck. (It's really DEAD in here, as all their customers are at home with their families.) That made me smile. These are good people. Not two minutes later, three of them --all at the same time-- shout out my name, making me nearly knock my laptop onto the floor. I catch my breath and turn around to see what all the commotion is about, and I see them standing there, presenting me with a plate of turkey and all the fixings, and telling me to share Thanksgiving with them.YES, I'm in tears as I'm typing this. I know none of you are surprised to hear that, but I thought I'd confirm it for you, just in case. I am truly blessed and surrounded with more love and support than I realize.Love to you all,The Grateful Ted

The wonderful thing about Thanksgiving is that we find 'family' no matter where we are. Glad those folks made you part of their special Thanksgiving family. Your dad is also in my thoughts and prayers. Chits
