Re: The Bar Beyond The Forward
Hey Aub,I find the bar beyond the forward to be a moving target. When you end up with a publisher/supervisor/a&r person that likes one of your songs and decides to sign with you, a relationship starts and you sort of get to ask the person directly what they liked about your tune and what they like in general for their catalog.Once you know that, it makes it easier to set the bar for that person but not necessarily for some other publisher. So my own personal bar is to set it as high as the best songs I know and hope that meets up with what they are looking for.Sooner or later you end up with a decent idea, but still never sure.Best of luck.Cisco

Well said, Cisco. I like the idea of asking exactly what it was that attracted the publisher to your song in the hopes of understanding their particular bar and yes, I agree, every one of them has different criteria.

What is everyone's process after getting signed to a library? I've got about eight tunes in two different libraries, but haven't followed up with them.I've heard people talk about following up with a phone call, but I guess I don't know what to even say at that point? "Hey, thanks for signing my songs, lets get 'em placed?"

I think Martin is right on here. You want to basically thank them for signing your material and to ask them to keep you in mind for any future needs they may have. You can also ask if they would like to hear other tunes that might fit their needs. In the end - don't be a pest - but do stay in touch every once in a while. The library director will usually let you know what his schedule fo accepting new material is.Hope this helps.CiscoQuote:Quote:What is everyone's process after getting signed to a library?
