Best compliment ever

What's the best compliment you ever got in response to your music? I got one of the best compliments I've ever had yesterday at the WCS conference. I had the opportunity to play a song for the president of the SF Grammy board. I played Perfect Enough and he said it was "a masterpiece". Nobody has ever used that word describing one of my songs and it came from someone high up in the industry. We pour so much time and effort into our music and then get criticized constantly, it feels amazing to get a little recognition.Nomi

(Even better than the "nice legs" compliments)... A compliment from someone high up in the industry holds so much weight and should make you feel honored. As for THE comment that I held in the highest regard, it came from my daughter (she was either 12 or 13 at the time) as she and a couple of her friends were walking through the kitchen as I was reviewing a track of music I had just written. She stopped for a second and with her friends standing right there said "Daddy, your music rocks". BTW, after the "masterpiece" comment, don't tell me you passed up the opportunity to hit him up for some cash for "continued artist development".

I've had it both ways.... I've had a couple times... (not recently though) when someone with connections offered to help me pitch or even plug my songs.... those complements even though years ago still provide me confidence to keep moving forward..... On the other end of the spectrum.... I was playing on the porch of the trailer (Studio B... that's B as in Beach).... and a crowd of 7 or 8 little kids .... age 5 to 10..... gathered around while I was practicing some songs and writing a new tune..... they would chime in between tunes... "Mr.... we really like your music and the guitar playing and the songs you play.... and you make up some really great songs..... " :- ) : -) :-DArkJack

Nomi, that is fantastic....to be recognized in that way by higher ups is a nice validation. The best compliment (or compliments) that people give me is when they tell me that I'm a really good lyricist. I dunno, people will say things to make you feel good, but I've been told my lyrics are pretty good. One of the nicest compliments I get is when people recognize what I write outside my main genre, country. I write jazz, alternative, R&B, and it's a good feeling when I get compliments on that because it stretches me to try other things.I am not a very expressive person when talking....I don't know, I can't find the words sometimes, but I can express myself through lyrics for some reason. When people like what I write, that is the ultimate compliment because I feel like I've expressed myself to the fullest and connected with people in a way that I couldn't through regular conversation. I love to put raw emotion in some of my songs...more often than not, those are the songs I don't show to anyone, but I hope to show more of those songs in the future...and with the help of a good co-writer and collaboration....well, anything is possible.
