Quote:Greetings!1. I have been a private investigator for the better part of 25 years...Craig, Now that sounds like a really cooool day job. Like something from the movies.... I currently do acupuncture two days a week (that's down from the original full-time work five years ago), and the rest of what I do is music-related stuff. So I'm grateful. We also lead Sacred Retreat Tours to northern India. Before that I was making use of my doctorate in psych, working at a VA and the general hospital, and running a part-time private practice. And before that I used to teach weekend yoga/meditation intensives and retreats while renovating the houses I lived in. I did some model work in early 2000 with the Yoga: Mastering the Basics book/video crew, but I didn't get paid for that, so I guess that doesn't count for "day jobs". But it was fun anyway. And before that I served as assistant for 8 years to the man who was the former Shankaracharya of India (kind of like India's version of the Pope). Feels like I've lived a few lives already, and it took me a long time to finally take the leap into the music business (big thanks to my husband!). I remember being a young teenager and listening to Kitaro, wishing I had a way to record my own music. Only took me nearly 20 years to get there... <sigh> Raags

Re: What's your day job?
I'm another one of the lucky ones who gets to do music full time. I started engineering at a studio called Track Star here in San Diego (www.trackstarstudios.com) when I was 20. I was halfway through a recording arts program at a community college (Mira Costa) and had done a couple of independent projects, but I'm still not quite sure how I got the gig...guess I knew just enough to get by and spent all of my off time learning what I didn't already know! And I was good enough st BS'ing to not make it obvious that I'd only read about some of the things I was being asked to do...oh well, it worked out! I did mostly engineering for about a year and then moved into more producing, doing as many independent projects as I could on the side. Now it's about a year and a half after that, and I spend a good chuck of my time producing, mixing, engineering, and writing. I've been writing since I was a kid, but recently I've been doing more and more of it, and now I'm trying to make the transition into writing and composing full time. That way I can hopefully only produce and mix projects that really interest me and I really believe in! I recently scored an independent feature called "Jonathon Moon" that Lions Gate has shown some interest in releasing on DVD, and just had my first song picked up by a publisher. So, it's an interesting life! Never quite know where that rent money's gonna come from, but it's worked out so far...Hopefully I can keep it going Dan

Re: What's your day job?
Hi everyone. I'm kind of new to the whole forum thing and I can't really tell where anyone is. I felt like writing something so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Chris, I live in Boston. For my day job I am an english teacher, I also tutor part time. I'm hoping that taxi can help me get my foot in the door somewhere so I can get into song writing professionally. So far all the informaiton and advice has been great, I think just raeding some of John Braheny's stuff (also his book) has got me thinking about things I havent really thought about before. I actually can't wait for my first critique. I just want some feedback. I responded to that green day dispatch and I think my song was pretty good. I also did one for a publisher that I'll get that critique for. Right now i'm working on a PD xmas song, just cause i've never done one before. Anyway, thanks for staying with me this long. Don't fry me too bad for being off topic. Hope to meet some interesting people here. Nice talking...
